The Magnetic Fields Return to Merge Records

Stephin Merritt‘s erudite indie-pop project the Magnetic Fields is returning to Merge Records. The last few Magnetic Fields albums were on Nonesuch, but Merge released the landmark 1999 triple-album 69 Love Songs and many other 90s Magnetic Fields records.

Merge’s website has announced that the Magnetic Fields will release a new album in 2012. As previously reported, Merge will release Obscurities, a collection of older Merritt material, on August 23. Below, listen to the Obscurities track “Forever and a Day”.
