Alien Knife Fight Release Stunning DIY Official Video for Empowering New Single, “Flightplan”

Duo to Hit The Road With Scott H Biram and Jesse Dayton For West Coast Tour

Indie Rock’s Best Kept Secret Alien Knife Fight, comprised of vocalist/bassist Monique Ortiz and drummer Michael Howard, are gearing up to join fellow Texans Scott H Biram and Jesse Dayton on a West Coast run, and are preparing fans with the release of an elegant, lo-fi music video for their newest single, “Flightplan.” First featured on Paste Magazine, while simultaneously racking up plays on Facebook, “Flightplan” is a compelling, Gospel-like aria, with scenes of Monique’s captivating performance style and dreamy imagery laid over for a perfect visualization of the song’s subversive narrative.

“‘Flightplan’ is really about how much of my creative life has been a very steep uphill climb. In many ways it’s my ‘fuck you’ to everyone who has written me off, been dismissive of me and my work, and for all those who have and continue to ignore me altogether (“too bad you’re late to the party”). Since childhood I’ve always been kind of an outsider, never really fitting in, never quite cool enough, never invited to the parties. I was the one girl who worked at the rock club and could never get a gig there, while all my shoe gaze, noise band coworkers gigged regularly. That sort of thing. I was always a bit awkward and nerdy. At some point in my teens I just kinda said ‘screw it. I’ll just do what I want to do, and if no one ever gets it, fine because I don’t need anyone’s approval.’ It’s probably the closest thing I’ve come to writing about female empowerment. Now I’ve taken flight, and I’m leaving all the naysayers behind.”Monique Ortiz

Based in the small, dusty junction town of Creedmoor, Texas (population 202) the creative duo Known as Alien Knife Fight craft their sound at all hours in their big, old 1930’s era house/home studio, situated on 3.6 acres that they call Big Bottom Farm.

Bassist/vocalist Monique Ortiz has been performing in duos for over 25 years mainly out of necessity. “I just couldn’t find that third instrument that was the right fit, so rather than be hindered by that, I try to fill out the sound in other ways.”

Her first notable duo project, Bourbon Princess (1997), led to over a decade of collaboration and with members of the band Morphine, which ultimately led up to the formation of A.K.A.C.O.D., with Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley and Binary system drummer Larry Dersch.

In 2010 Monique moved from Boston to Austin, met multi-instrumentalist Michael Howard and they started writing and recording music together. With Mike’s primal beats and Monique’s powerful vocals and growling 2-string slide bass and fretless bass playing, the two gradually shaped their sound into something sinister, sexy, soulful and groovy all at once.

Currently AKF are working on a new record. In March of 2017 they will be touring the west coast in support of Scott H Biram.

Mallen Release Official Video For “Jack Of Cards”

UK Heavy rock band Mallen has released the Official Video for their Debut Single, “Jack of Cards”. Recorded and produced by David Radahd (aka Johnny RockerHeavens Basement) of Red City Recordings, “Jack of Cards” is available to download via iTunes,  Google Play and Amazon.

“Groove filled riffs, sweeping melodic verses and punchy choruses. A song that tells the listener what we are all about.” – Mallen

Mallen were more than a little humbled when asked to play an acoustic set on the forum stage before Alice Cooper and Mötley Crüe during Mötley Crüe’s farewell tour. Granted, an acoustic set would be a far cry from the wall of sound this Midlands (UK) hard rock band usually produces. But for legends like Alice Cooper and Mötley Crüe … they decided just this once, the dials could go from 11 to 10.

Formed in late 2013, the empowering, anthemic music of songwriter Dann Pritchard and the captivating vocals of frontwoman Kelly Jane were brought to life with the addition of bassist Dean Ellis and drummer Tom Crowfoot. A mutual love for Hot-rods, “Greasers” and heavy rock gave Mallen the fuel for inspiration and the band set to work on their first EP.

February 2015 saw the release of Mallens debut EP Ignition, which was well received between reviewers and radio stations alike. This sparked a stream of gigs for the band, including some great opening slots for bands like Toseland and Funeral for a Friend as well as the slot at the LG Forum stage at the Birmingham NEC during Mötley Crüe’s farewell tour. After which, guitarist Rhys Broomhall joined the band. With the retirement of Dean from the playing circuit left a very big hole to be filled within the band. However a challenge that was not daunting to bassist Joe Horton, who raised the bar to the next level for the band.

November 2016 Mallen released the single “Jack of Cards”. Recorded and produced by David Radahd Jones ( ex Heavens Basement), “Jack of Cards” set a new bar for Mallen’s sound. Groove filled riffs, sweeping, melodic verses and punchy choruses create a song that fans of Halestorm and Alterbridge would love.

Molehill Release Official Music Video for “Hearts on Fire”

Currently gigging around Austin, TX for SXSW, the progressive indie rock band Molehill has released the official music video for their single “Hearts on Fire”. The song is the title track from their new EP (releasing on May 12th) and was inspired by the “Euromaidan” protests in the Ukraine, the birthplace of vocalist Peter Manhart’s mother.

We wanted a video that would reinforce the lyrics and message of the song while also adding additional layers through the visual format,” says Manhart. “Over a couple phone calls with director Matt DiMare, we were all on board with using footage of protests and revolutions. We also tossed around the idea of people being forced to watch this footage in almost a Clockwork Orange – type scenario. Matt came up with a storyline for the video which we all loved – the ‘angel’ character, played by Kit Hamlen, finds Peter walking through downtown Chicago like a zombie, unaware of his surroundings (not an unusual sight in any city these days), takes him to this strange building and forces him to watch protest footage and ‘pay attention.’ He sort of ‘wakes up’ out of his previous state and takes to the street himself to carry on her work.

“Hearts on Fire” was produced and engineered by J. Hall and Molehill, and is available on Spotify and iTunes. Pre-order the EP here.

About Molehill:
Molehill had humble beginnings in small local venues in Champaign, IL, and has since grown into an established presence in the Chicago music scene. They have played over 300 shows between the Midwest and Eastern United States, including some of the more prestigious venues in Chicago, as well as national (and international) festivals like Summerfest, Musikfest, SXSW, and Canadian Music Week in Toronto. Molehill has built a reputation for explosive live shows and a tireless work ethic, as well as the work they’ve done towards fostering a more friendly and cooperative music community in the city of Chicago. They were one of the founding members of the Chicago Roots Collective, which was a 10-band collective working together to promote the Chicago music scene and their music, and for the last 2 years Molehill has curated a monthly email list to dozens of local bands to try to promote live music in Chicago and encourage local bands to attend shows, discover new bands, and support each other even more.

Peter Manhart, lead singer, lyricist, and guitar player, started playing piano at the age of 3. At the University of Illinois, he pursued a double major in engineering physics and piano pedagogy, but dropped the piano major after 2 years so that he could focus his practice time on the guitar. He went on to get his physics degree, but also took numerous creative writing and poetry classes to develop his lyric writing ability. After moving from Champaign to Chicago, Peter met bassist Trevor Jones, who was studying double bass at DePaul University. Trevor had spent a large portion of his life in various orchestras and has always had a penchant for well organized noise, whatever the genre. He also grew up watching his father, a music professor, manage and play in a 16-piece jazz big band. This instilled in Trevor a strong business and management sense, and helped him complement Peter not only musically but with the business aspect of the band as well. After Peter and Trevor started working together, drummer Devin Staples joined the group. Devin has been a fixture in the Chicago gospel scene for years, and had also been a member of two highly-respected Chicago bands, NYCO and Cassius Clay. The 4th and final piece of the puzzle, keyboard/synth player Greg Van Zuiden, joined soon after. Greg had recently graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a music degree, moved to Chicago, and was looking for a band to join. As the youngest member of Molehill, he was the light-hearted “glue” that helped the band stay strong.

The Hearts on Fire EP continues the group’s tradition of storytelling in music. The dark, brooding “Old Soldier” tells the story of a proud, religious, soldier, living out his last days in a nursing home – “And he sits in a dead room, sterilizer and perfume, and the lights are slowly growing dim.” “Reverie” has the narrator lamenting the loss of a parent long ago, while also thanking that parent, for “you made me the person I am.” Last but not least, the title track was inspired by the “Euromaidan” protests in Ukraine – the birthplace of Peter Manhart’s mother. The song is about the common people rising up to fight an oppressive regime. Though the people in this protest were unarmed, the government sent riot police and snipers to kill them, and yet the people’s numbers kept growing until they were finally heard. This song is about the strength of community, sheer willpower, and the resonance of a good and virtuous idea. Though the few in control may try to keep the will of the people down, the masses can change the world if they fight together. With the recent wave of public dissent and protests happening around the world, this seems like the appropriate time to share this song.

Indie rockers, Foreign Sons have released their new music video and single, “Good Things”. This is the second single off of their forthcoming full-length which is set to release later in 2017. Deriving their sound from many different genres, Foreign Sons solidified their indie rock groove before releasing their last EP, Of Want & Wisdom, in 2013.

“”Good Things” is about the struggle of losing our way and taking hold of the redemption that is possible regardless of how far we may have drifted. The video captures this struggle through the lives of four children rediscovering freedom.” -Vocalist Chris Bundra

Paul Johnson and The About Last Nights Release Official Music Video for “Burn it Down”

Hattiesburg, Mississippi-based Power Pop / Alternative Rockers Paul Johnson and The About Last Nights have released the Official Video their single, “Burn It Down.” Originally premiered on Relix, “Burn It Down” is the first single off of their forthcoming, debut EP, Give Up The Ghost, due Spring 2017.

“Really, it’s adolescence. Being young, bored and hopeful that one day things will be whatever we make it, but right now is all that matters. Looking back as adults, we sometimes see that maybe those were the best times of our lives. Getting through those years feels like an eternity, but in the grand scheme of things, it is only a moment.” – Paul Johnson

Click HERE to download “Burn It Down” On iTunes.

Paul Johnson & The About Last Nights may be from Mississippi, but this isn’t your traditional “southern rock. Singer/Songwriter Paul Johnson and Drummer Zack Lewis had a vision in mind, which was to play songs people want to sing, a kind of “Power Pop”, with the emphasis on “Power.” They unified on the principle of a “song first, honest music” mentality. High-energy rock n’ roll that draws from their influences like Cheap Trick and the Foo Fighters and at times the band recalls the performances of Weezer and Sloan in full-on rock mode, but never neglecting the art of the power balled. This is a band with a purpose, which is to make great music and have fun doing it and their live show prove that with reviews like:

Potent AC/DC-ish riffage kept aloft by crisp Tom Petty-ish harmonies, a passel of radio-ready rock songs built to appeal to everyone from fans of Pyromania-era Def Leppard, the anthemic paces of Smashing Pumpkins as well as the music that erupts from Active Rock radio today . — Mik Davis,The Chronical

Passion, the new music, and Live show are an example of that! I look forward to seeing/hearing people’s reaction to this great music from this great Rock n’ Roll band!Kevin Mckay, WKSM.COM, 99ROCK

Their Debut Album\EP Give Up The Ghost is on the way. Their new single and music video “Burn It Down” will be released March 2017. Recorded in Atlanta, Georgia at RCRD Recording Studios and engineered by Dan Dixon (Pls Pls, The dropSonic) with 1st engineer Patrick McConkey, and produced by Tuk Smith of The Biters. DOPE Teases ‘Blood Money Part 2’ with Cover of Ministry’s “Thieves” Feat. Andy LaPlegua of Combichrist

Dope is hinting at their upcoming album Blood Money Part 2 by releasing a brand new video for their cover of Ministry’s Industrial / Metal classic “Thieves” featuring Andy Leplegua of Combichrist.

The two bands are currently co-headlining the Black Craft Whisky sponsored Blood Lust Death Tour.

“To celebrate the release of Thieves, we are inviting our fans to rob us”  Says Edsel Dope.

“Thieves” can be downloaded for free HERE.

The pointed, yet hilarious, video takes shots at a number of leaders throughout our history, and ultimately climaxes with a ridiculous parody of Donald Trumpgrabbing Hillary Clinton by the pussy, followed by the two having sex while chugging wine and eating a well done steak..

“Like many people, I wasn’t pro Hillary, nor was I pro Trump”. Says Edsel. “I’m pro America and all of the politicians appear to be crooked in one way or another… As a result., we had a good time throwing all of them under the bus in this video.”

Dope’s Blood Money Part 1 was released In October 2016, where it debuted at number 27 on the Bilboard top 200 album chart..

The release date for the highly anticipated follow up Blood Money Part 2 has yet to be announced, but this new track is a sign that it might be coming sooner rather than later…

“I’m not a fan of cover songs” says Andy. “When Edsel reached out to me about doing ‘Thieves’ together I was really skeptical – but in the end I think we do the mighty Ministry justice… and I’m sure Uncle Al will love the video!” – Andy Leplegua
