Steep Steps Take Game of Thrones to the Upside Down

Electronic Production duo Steep Steps, made up of ArtRock band RÊVE front-woman Athena Hiotis and Multi-Instrumental Producer/Engineer Tony Correlli, has taken two of the hottest contemporary TV show franchises to create what is destined to be one of the most enigmatic acoustic fusions of the of recent history. Eschewing any expectation of genres, the pair has taken the Midieval instrumental arrangement of HBO’s hot television adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire,” Game of Thrones, and injected it with layers of dark synths and electronic orchestration recalling Netflix’s mid-80s placed, hit drama Stranger Things. Unsatisfied to leave the experience as audio alone, Steep Steps has created a haunting music video inspired by the sinister ambiguity of ‘the upside down.’

Originally premiered on top pop culture site The Nerdist, “Game of Thrones (in The Upside Down)” was shot by Sympatico at Secret Sound Studio in Baltimore, MD.

“As far as pop culture mashups go this might sound, well, strange, but it works so well. This should play before a very dark, very creepy Lovecraftian fantasy.” – Michael WalshThe Nerdist

Discussing the video, Tony said, “I was working on some monosynth sounds one night and randomly started playing the beginning of the “Game of Thrones” theme. It was fun, so I started recording it, taking the medieval-sounding parts of that arrangement and interpreting theme as synth patches. The more layers I tracked, the more it reminded me of “Stranger Things”, so I started to dial in those kinds of sounds and worked them into the chords and time signature of the “Game of Thrones” theme. It really came together quickly. When Athena vocalized the melody, the track transformed from a quirky little experiment into something that fit our sound and paid tribute to two cool series that would normally be separated by a significant amount of space and time.”

Athena adds: “I came from the perspective of not having seen Game of Thrones but having deeply respected the world the creators built and especially the soundtrack. I approached the melody from a dark, haunting, but strangely soothing place and we both felt it added to this merging of sounds and themes. It ended up working out really well. We are both very proud of the result.””

Steep Steps is a songwriting and production duo creating dark, electronic music for film and television. The group is comprised of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist, Athena Hiotis, the front women of touring art rock band RÊVE; and Tony Correlli, a high demand Mid-Atlantic producer/engineer/and multi-instrumentalist. The style is marked by haunting female vocals and layers of analog synths, indie guitar tones, and creative production.

Silent Theory Release Official Music Video for “Watch Me Burn”

Idaho Rock Band Silent Theory has released the Official Music Video for the single “Watch Me Burn,” the second single off of their 2016, full length release, Delusions. Originally revealed on Loudwire’s Wire-to-Wire, “Watch Me Burn” was directed by Jon Kuritz in Moscow, ID, utilizing 5 projectors and all white costuming to screen footage of mostly news channels.

Given the state of the world right now, with the natural disasters and political turmoil, we opted for a video that mirrored the current state, though we’d never consider ourselves a political band. While we want people to interpret our song and video for themselves, it was written and directed with the premise in mind that we are all in this together, and that music can be what binds us all together. – Silent Theory

Upstart Idaho rockers Silent Theory emerge from the smoke and embers with their rocking new video for “Watch Me Burn.” The radio-ready rocker balances between tender piano moments and more aggressive jutting rock guitars. – Loudwire

In a society where new bands pop up every day, Silent Theory is here to set a new standard. Silent Theory was created in 2010 by brothers Mitch, Scott, and George Swanger and family friend Robert James. In 2014, Dakota Elliot Tyler joined to front the band. The Swanger brothers are from the Moscow, Idaho area, where they grew up playing music together. Dakota and Robert are from the western Washington area, where they grew up doing the same.

Lead singer Dakota says the guys are “like family” and they’ve made a great bond. Despite a portion of the group being brothers, they say it really makes the creativity flow having band members who aren’t related. From the beginning, the band has wanted to make music people can relate to. They want their fans to love their songs even more, every time they hear them.

The group started their journey playing small local shows to get their name out and their music heard. The band gained popularity and started playing bigger shows in the Seattle/Tacoma area, Spokane, Washington, and Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho. The band also got the opportunity for a much bigger show, the South-By-Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas where they played with bands like Metallica, Shiny Toy Guns, The Proclaimers and more. 2010 was a year of achievements for the band. The group made an appearance on MTV Cribs, where they performed their single “Livin’ the Dream,” headlined the world famous “Whisky A Go-Go” in Los Angeles, California, and signed their first record deal with Turkey Vulture Records. By June 2011, the band was headed to Rockford, Illinois to record their full-length debut album, Black Tie Affair, which was released in October of 2011. In celebration of their album release, the band played their first ever sold out show in the history of the BellTower Concert House in Pullman, Washington. After the release of Black Tie Affair the band toured the nation in the summer of 2012 to promote the album and the single, “Livin’ the Dream” which was made available on the video game Rock Band. Recently, Silent Theory released several new songs including; “Outta My Head” in 2013, and their most recent single and music video, “Fragile Minds.” Their sophomore album, Delusions was released September 10th, 2016 and they toured Spring 2017 in support of the album.

Through the years, Silent Theory has always had one constant goal in mind: To always be striving to better themselves. Despite challenges along the way, the band says “playing together has always kept us motivated; we’re all up there because we love it.” The band has plenty on their plate in the upcoming months and they’re ready to see what the future holds.

Swindy Release Official Music Video for “Reflection”

Tucson, AZ based Electronic Pop Rock band Swindy has released the Official Music Video for the single “Reflection,” off of their debut, self titled EP. Originally premiered on Tattoo.com, “Reflection” was directed by Isabel Uzcategui at Originate Design Productions.

During my time in 2012, I began to discover the strength found in pop music. I fell in love with the influences of Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Kesha and more. It was from there that my solo project, Swindy (a nickname given to me), began to take off. It has developed itself quickly into a style that brings a variety of music styles together and is supported by a complete band lineup. – Randall Swindell

Swindy began life as the solo project of Randall Swindell (frontman for Ensphere) when presented with a sudden opportunity to play a show. He teamed up with drummer Mike Jenney (Alter der Ruine and Assemblage 23) and guitarist Jeff Sargent (vocalist for Industrial Band 51 PEG) for their debut in July 2016 in Tucson, AZ; Steven Escalante has since joined the band as the newest permanent and live drummer while Mike has moved over to synthesizer position. Classical vocalist Alyson Precie joined in September 2016. Conceived at the start as a fast-paced project designed for a flexible, modular live performance, a Swindy show can be executed with as few as one or as many as nine musicians. Their sound has been described as “Electronic Pop Rock – with a twist of Industrial”, but the diverse musical backgrounds of the members combine to create a sound that’s not quite definable. Swindy has quickly gained momentum, releasing their first single “Reflection” (ft. John Russell) on November 17th, 2016, followed by their next single “Ignite My Love” on January 12th, 2017. The full 5 track self-titled EP, produced by Matt Good (From First to Last), was released on February 23rd. Not content with just the studio, Swindy has shared the bill with Orgy, Powerman 5000, Trapt, Otep, Dope, Combichrist, William Control, and many others. Swindy recently welcomed the addition of Jonathan Russell on guitar, replacing Jeff Sargent for the upcoming live performances. Swindy continues to book out 2017, and a full length record is in motion for early 2018.

Early Praise for Sex with the Devil:
Psychedelic Brooklyn trio Karabas Barabas are anything but ordinary, and the newest single off of their upcoming, December 22nd scheduled album, Sex with the Devil, intriguingly titled “That 70s Song,” proves that statement. While lighter than previous releases–for example the recently released “Sexy Guy” video off of 2016’s The Return of the Sexy Demon (and if you haven’t heard of these guys, watch the politically charged music video HERE)–the track retains their signature weirdness but brilliant creativity that has made this unusual band a staple in their local scene. – Paste Magazine

For all of you 90s party kids, this track is equal parts nostalgia and tongue in cheek humor mixed with the self-declared “weirdest band’s” affinity for Mr. Bungle meets Tom Waits experimentation. So sit back and relax, or bust out those sweet crowd dance moves, and enjoy “Fuckarana”! – AntiHero Magazine

DEUCE TO DROP SOPHOMORE ALBUM INVINCIBLE, OUT 12/1 via Better Noise Records

Portland based and Los Angeles bred rapper, producer and singer DEUCE has announced that his latest album, Invincible, will be released via Better Noise Records on December 1st. The masked musician is vying for immortality with 14 new tracks, representing his next natural step from his 2012 debut solo album, Nine Lives – which sold 100,000 units, received 33 million views on YouTube, and featured the hit single “America”. Invincible can be pre-ordered on iTunes HERE.

Recorded in both Los Angeles and Portland, the recording process brought out polarizing emotions. “The material we did in L.A. was a little angrier,” Deuce explains, “In Portland, it got more mellow and hip-hop. I think you can hear the difference.”

Invincible includes “World On Fire”, “Bitch This Is It”, and the lead single “Here I Come” (out now on Better Noise Records) – which features eerie keys, chugging guitar, and an unshakable hook, “Until I die, I’m never fucking done.”

“Here I Come” is now available for streaming HERE.

FWLR and JELO Team Up on ‘Birth of the Anti Hero,’ Out NOW on Bishops Bloc Records!

Canadian producers JELO and FWLR have teamed up with Bishops Bloc Records to release their two track EP Birth of the Anti Hero. Originally premiered on The Music Ninja, Birth of the Anti Hero is a refreshing re-interpretation of the classic dubstep sound and has already garnered support from Hunter Siegel, Ill Gates, and Corvad.

The grinding bass and European electro sound that “Birth Of The Anti Hero” expresses is making a comeback, especially within the states. It may be just at its beginning, but the comeback will continue as long as acts churn out records like this one. It’s dirty, it’s mean and it’s incredibly intoxicating with its fervor. With the remix we get some added vocal elements that make for a nice touch as a flip for the original. Tyler Trew – The Music Ninja

FWLR & JELO never fail at creating maximum impact dance floor smashers and this is no less than that. Individually they have long spanning careers that see them at the top of their game when it comes to djng and production. Two true masters combining their strengths only takes us one more level closer to dark bass nirvana. Hard hitting drums, heavy dubstep and drum n bass bass lines and even some 90’s nu-metal guitar influences layered with a middle eastern flavour combine to create a multi genre mind bending journey through bass. Starting out in the “Rezz” and “Black Gummy” bass house territory and eventually evolving into a drum & bass song before winding back to its 4/4 origins there are twists and turns galore without ever losing focus. This song is about the birth of a new hero, the underdog, the unexpected saviour, something we can all relate to wishing for at this time in history. On the B Side the former Hugsnotdrugs frontman Fear The Priest has pulled two more musical collaborators from his seemingly never ending supply to create an industrial glitch hop nu-metal hiphop remix of anthemic proportions. Twisting the original track into something of a chaotic industrial glitch hop song before the entirely appropriate and ethereal vocals of Rani Chatoorgoon take hold of your soul. Dustin Wareham’s rapping style grabs you by the frontal lobe with his message about the “privilege” of being born into money and doing more damage than good. Rani and Dustin take turns delving deeper into the philosophy of the original song and come out giving Evanescence and Kanye West a run for their money. Considering how young Bishops Bloc Records is itself this is an impressively mature release that sounds and feels good. We look forward to hearing more from all of these collaborators.

Inviolate Releases Official Music Video for “Broken Cycle”

Atlanta-based rock/metal/industrial band Inviolate has released their brand new music video for “Broken Cycle”, the second single from their August 2017 full-length CD The Insomniac’s Dream. Originally premiered on Tattoo.com, “Broken Cycle” was shot by Chance White of White Flame Studios at both the complex of the Safety Wolf facility and Atlanta’s Big Peach Studios.

Musically we wanted the song to build from soft and haunted at the beginning to a feeling of resolution and agency by the end. You’re taking a stand and saying ‘I refuse to play the victim to my circumstances’ but there’s acknowledgment that you can’t always go at it alone. You have people in your corner who have your back when you might falter. The imagery of the swordswomen embodies that aspect of the lyrics. – Inviolate

“Broken Cycle” features seven members of Inviolate’s “2.0” lineup (click HERE to read about Inviolate’s unique band member configuration), as well as the Sisters of Anarchy, a troupe of modern fusion bellydancers wielding scimitars in a choreography that vocalist Kadria created specifically for the video.

“This video showcases for the first time how Inviolate 2.0 works with rotating members on any given 4-person lineup. The final chorus shows every member who played on the video (and album) in single shots of all 7 of us rocking out,” says Kadria. “We’re one huge extended family, and we wanted to visually represent that through the entire video.”

INVIOLATE: 1. adj. Not violated or profaned; intact, free from violation, injury, desecration, or outrage.

Originally founded with Bryon Brown on guitar, Chris Farmer on bass and vocalist/sample engineer Kadria, Atlanta’s Inviolate continues to create and perform with Kadria at the creative helm, along with an array of the southeast’s finest rock and metal talent for live shows (musicians who play live with the band are part of “Inviolate 2.0“) and in the studio. Inviolate’s sound is multi-faceted, defying the labels of mere “metal”, “rock”, “electronica”, even “industrial” but a sonic blend of all. To visually augment the sonic onslaught, Kadria adds the moves of a bellydancer which, by turns, emphasize delicacy and aggression according to the music’s mood. This combination produces a visual in their live show unlike any other in the rock and metal world.

Inviolate signed to Strange One Records in April 2012 and released a 7-song album titled “Feast of Ashes”, co-produced with Mike Froedge(doubleDrive/Black Label Society) in June 2012, as well as a video for its first single “Condemned, ” directed by Gustavo Montana of At Dusk Media. The album and video garnered Inviolate a trifecta of nominations at the 2013 Georgia Music Awards for Best Metal BandBest Rock Female, and Video of the Year, and again in 2014 for Best Metal Band and Best Rock Female. “Feast of Ashes” also won Tampa’s Rock Solid Pressure Show’s “2014 EP Of The Year.”

Inviolate has shared the stage with a wide range of hard rock, metal, industrial and even acoustic heavyweights including Static-XWhitechapelButcher BabiesMushroomheadPowerman5000AmarantheEpicaSOiLOne-Eyed DollCelldwellerSymphony X, and Angie Aparo.

In early 2017, Inviolate returned to the studio to record their full-length CD The Insomniac’s Dream with co-producer Jordon Popp (Sky Machine/Seven Day Sonnet) at Glass Wall Studio in Chicago, IL. Their first single, “Sisyphus”, dropped with a lyric video in July 2017 and features guest vocals by the Swedish vocal titan Bjorn Strid (Soilwork/Night Flight Orchestra). The Insomniac’s Dream was released worldwide on August 1, 2017 and the band continues to tour the east coast, pushing steadily westward and gaining fans (fondly called Inviolators) at every turn. “I’m super excited about this album,” says vocalist Kadria. “We pushed the envelope on so many levels. And then we got to work with someone like Björn— it’s such an honor to have his voice on one of our songs! And we were thrilled to have Jordon put on his producer’s hat on for our songs. The response we’re getting at every show has been amazing.”
The band continues to tour, with an album of remixes already underway and planned for release early spring 2018. “More shows, more twists, more visual and auditory Inviolations coming your way. We can hardly wait!”

Small Town Titans Release Official Music Video for “Me, Myself, and Monster”

York, PA heavy rock band Small Town Titans has released the Official Music Video for their new single, “Me, Myself, and Monster,” which originally premiered on Tattoo.com.

“The song is about accepting and striking balance with the darkest parts of oneself. Anyone who says they could never commit an evil deed is probably the first person that will, at some point, blindly and ignorantly commit it. Once you acknowledge your ability to become a monster, that’s the path to becoming a better person.” – Phil Freeman

Click HERE to Download / Stream “Me, Myself, and Monster” Online!

The Small Town Titans are a power trio from York, PA who love to constantly create, as well as play live. Gone is the notion that a rock band should only release 10 songs at a time every 2 years. In a world where music fans crave new content constantly, the Small Town Titans aim to deliver their brand of art all of the time, drawing inspiration from a new wave of rock bands such as Highly Suspect and Royal Blood, and rock legends such as the Foo Fighters, Audioslave, and Deep Purple. Thanks to their efforts at assembling their own studio in a basement, STT can create and release songs, podcasts, live online concerts, and more with no rules. This artistic change in attitude stems from touring for the better part of 2 years, and realizing how difficult it really is.

After coming home from their last 30 day run, the band had made $4,000. After repairing their vehicle, restocking their merchandise and more, the band was left with $1,000. After putting most of that back into the band’s funds as usual, each member took home $150. This startling reality made STT take a step back and evaluate themselves as a band, a brand, and a business. After firing their manager, the boys soldiered on with the help of their team at Round 2 Records. They began to truly treat Small Town Titans as a legitimate small business more than ever before. Unnecessary expenses were cut, and more creative and innovative sources of new revenue were explored, such as utilizing the direct to fan creation platform Patreon, where the band is currently making $200 every time they release a new song on YouTube.

Instead of trying to make a million fans, STT is focusing on the fans they already have. With a love for playing live, a Small Town Titans show has evolved into more than a concert. It’s an event, with a set list that’s decided right before the show, and plenty of stage banter in between songs. The band simply hits the stage to deliver an energy driven show using guitars, drums, and their voices. Nothing more, nothing less. This approach to their live performances has led to them sharing the stage with acts such as Highly Suspect, Papa Roach, Black Stone Cherry, Pop Evil, and more.

By focusing on their engagement with social media and managing themselves, Small Town Titans are growing like never before and having more success as a business and a brand. The band just wrapped up a weekend long recording session at Hybrid Studios with friend Kevin Soffera, drummer for Seether on the 5x platinum selling record Disclaimer II, and who STT also recorded their last album Reflection with. Six brand new songs were recorded live in the studio, as well as professionally filmed by Springwood Productions at the same time. These new songs and videos will be released throughout the rest of 2017 and 2018. Songs range from the hard hitting “Me, Myself, and Monster” and “Wreck” to the ballad “Dragonfly”, an emotional song written in memory of Phil’s mother, who passed away earlier this year due to cancer, performed live with just one voice and an acoustic guitar.

Small Town Titans are actively forming a team of like minded individuals in the new music business who are just as driven and passionate as they are, rather than waiting to be discovered. As the band continues to grow their fan base online this year, they will also hit the road, this time with a smarter game plan, a stronger fan base, and a passionate team behind them.
