Warrington, England’s Anton Rowenski, who releases music under the moniker This Evening’s Portrait, has released his debut single, “Shining Light”. The song was recorded at his home.

“Yeah it was self recorded on my laptop in my bedroom.” Says Rowenski,” It’s written about a girl that I’ve been dating who I think is way out of my league and it was written for her, as cheesy as that sounds.”

Abydoss Records Expanding Staff and Roster

Abydos Records (www.abydosproductions.net), a growing independent record label in Northeast Ohio, today announced the appointment of two new directors within the Company.

President Jeff McConocha cited the label’s recent success and ever-growing stable of artists as the main reasons for creating the new positions. “I’ve been really fortunate to find so many talented people that get and share my vision,” said McConocha. “’Promotion and Marketing’ and A&R are both very key positions in the organization and finding people to fill those positions that share the vision is gratifying. I’m excited to welcome both Lance and Paul to the Abydos family.”

McConocha has appointed Paul Vician as Director of Artist and Repertoire. Vician, a Cleveland native who spent most of his life in LA, will be working directly with Abydos artists on all things music related. Vician brings 30 years of industry experience to the position. He has produced and performed television commercials and video games as well as worked with some of music’s most well known producers, managers and entertainment attorneys. “I can’t say how excited I am to be working with Jeff McConcha and the Abydos family.” Vician said, “Abydos wants to stay leading edge, adapting to the market, while staying true to it’s artists first and foremost with utmost integrity as a label. I couldn’t ask for a better opportunity with amazing people.”

I expect big things from this label.” Lance Waste has produced over 300 albums, toured the world with his band Darling Waste, has served as A&R for several record labels while living in New York and England, and has managed artists from all over the world.

Founded in 2007, Abydos Records is part of the Abydos Productions brand, an independent multimedia company focusing on music, photography and film production. These additions show a commitment to both the art and the artists on the Abydos roster as the label continues to grow. For more information, please visit http://www.abydosproductions.net

REVIEW AND SONG PREMIERE: Lady Aphasia

Lady Aphasia’s new album, “The Age of Transience” comes out on Heart Riot Records this month. Below is a review of the EP along with the premiere of the lead single “Something Needs to Change”. Listen to the song below and check out our review!

“Lady Aphasia EP Review: “The Age of Transience” (Heart Riot Records)

In the chorus of the opening track on her debut EP “The Age of Transience “Indie-pop singer Lady Aphasia mourns:

The heart in my chest will never be satisfied / but at least I can say I tried /something needs to change /

The rest of the four song EP reflects on love, loss and moving on and the perils that are associated with love, loss and the human experience. But that does not mean that Lady Aphasia is world weary, far from it; she is simply a bird who has lost her wings and hoping to recover from her fall. Her fear of changing comes with the absolute paralysis of staying the same, and becoming emotionally stagnant, and then only destruction can come from it.

My favorite song on the record is “Something Needs to Change” because of how busy and heavy the beat is in the opening sequence of the intro before the singing starts. I think that a catchy beat coupled with sincere, emotional lyrics make for an unforgettable jam that goes on repeat for many summer nights. The “Age of Transience” is interesting stylistically because of how the beat keeps driving the song forward while Lady Aphasia’s vocals hover over the instrumentals like a haunted ghost seeking its way to mend its broken heart.

Lady Aphasia’s music works because it is simple and and yet at the same time human; no exaggerated instrumentals here…just raw emotion about the joys and pitfalls of love and loss. From the sound of it, newcomer to the Cleveland rock circuit; Lady Aphasia is already a force to be reckoned with from the spin lights of rock and roll clubs of Cleveland and beyond! Be sure to like Lady Aphasia on Facebook and check out her new EP “The Age of Transience” which will be released in July 2015 by Heart Riot Records!
