In today’s overcrowded Metal scene it’s virtually impossible for a band to rise up and stand out, against the odds, that’s what Fear Is Dead is doing.
Since 2011 they’ve been racking up large numbers of awe inspiring live performances, Fear is Dead has garnered the acclaim of many of New York’s underground, bringing fans from the Metal scene, and Hardcore / Punk scene together. Melting faces from BK’s Knitting Factory to LES Mercury Lounge, most recently packing out Brooklyn’s new Metal haven Lucky 13 Saloon. Their unique sound and intense energy some would say is reminiscent of early Machine Head and Korn.

  • Established in 2011 by Skila and Jacqueline Burns, the early line up included Anthony Moreno Brown on drums. Jax’s guitar and bass stylings set the tone for the heavy sound that would evolve to what we hear today. They released two EPs, Fear Is Dead in 2011, and Mourning Ritual in 2013, that were both well received. Songs like “I’m Slow” “Lie to Me” and “Boomerang” are still requested by fans today.

The band went on hiatus in 2014, and in 2015 Skila returned with a new line up, composed of Matt Pompeii on Bass, Carlos Crowcell on Drums, and newcomer David English on Guitars. This new Fear Is Dead still had the trademark strong groove and poetic introspective lyrics, but was musically much heavier and darker than it’s earlier incarnation. In the beginning of 2016 the band released their 3rd EP, Eleutherophobia. An appropriately more aggressive project, reflecting the times personally, socially, and politically. Songs like “Pretty Ugly” and “Miranda” quickly became underground favorites.

In mid 2017 the band released their 4th EP titled What Remains (2017). This project was musically more experimental and creative, and, lyrically from a darker, more personal place.

The band’s 5th EP Omnicidal is expected to be released late July 2018, followed but the Omnicidal West Coast Tour Aug 5th thru the 18th.

Their music, videos, and art work all embody what Fear Is Dead is about: evolving musically and artistically. Losing yourself to find yourself, even for a moment.

LIFECURSE Releases Official Music Video for “BUZZARD BAIT”

Asheville, NC Metal band LIFECURSE has released the official music video for “BUZZARD BAIT,” off of their forthcoming album, The Wolf You Feed. Produced by Jamie KIng (Between the Buried and MeFor TodayThe ContortionistScale the Summit), The Wolf You Feed is set to release mid-2018.

“‘Buzzard Bait’ is the first song we have released since 2013’s ‘Elysium.’ The song touches on themes and topics such as society’s inherent desire to watch people fail, to rubberneck through life and use other people’s failures and faults as a means to lift themselves higher, failing to realize that we are all one in the same. We are all born and we will all die, those are the only 2 things you are guaranteed in life. The rest is up to you to make make the world a better place, or completely destroy it. No one can make that choice.

Buzzard Bait is a song about the constant struggle between light and dark, and the incessant human need for validation from other humans.” – Lifecurse

Heavy music is like a shark–bloodthirsty, violent–but more importantly, driven by progression. The second bands stagnate and lose momentum, they sink to the murky depths of the listener’s mind, only to be rediscovered by whims of nostalgia years later. Fortunately for Asheville, North Carolina’s Lifecurse, stagnation is neither a word in their vocabulary or a concept they are familiar with. Originating in 2010, Lifecurse have practically defined the pinnacle of metalcore progression, expertly blending erratic, energetic heaviness with ethereality and riff-friendly technicality. What’s more? As times change and more and more bands are thinking out of the box, Lifecurse is far from afraid to delve into the darkest corners metal, hardcore and deathcore have to offer, never backing away from an opportunity to push the envelope further.

Since their formation in early 2010, Lifecurse have left no stone unturned. Independently releasing two full length studio albums and distributing thousands of copies to fans across the country, the band’s work ethic is admirable to say the least; providing full musical experiences where their peers are satisfied with brief EPs and single releases. Their devotion to their fans and fellow heavy music enthusiasts is also displayed by their incessant tour schedule. Planning and executing many of their own small excursions throughout 2012 and 2013 to support their sophomore release, Elysium, the band got their first big break as direct support for the legendary Norma Jean on their nationwide tour in 2014. Lifecurse’s impressive resume doesn’t end there–the band have acted as regional support for such genre-defining giants as The Ghost InsideThe Acacia StrainAll that Remains, and Battlecross, among several others. Since then, Lifecurse have receded from the public eye, planning tours and festivals, as well as writing and recording their third LP, The Wolf You Feed, an immense concept album spanning two discs. Adding a thick layer of icing to their already impressive cake of two full-length releases, The Wolf You Feed is sure to be the latest and greatest product from a band that has never slowed down in their constant push to deliver fresh and furious music to their fans.

Between touring the country, writing and recording immense, diverse and dynamic hit albums and playing countless local benefit shows for charities and charitable causes, Lifecurse are the “do or die” mentality come to life. The Wolf You Feed set for a Spring 2017 release, and tours to support it, it’s only a matter of time before this North Carolinian quintet devours your local scene.

Interview with Public Display of Aggression

Denver’s Public Display of Aggression took a few minutes to answer our questions about their new drummer, working with Dennis Shinn on their new album To Live and Die in Your Suit and Tie, and of course, pizza. If you’re in the Denver area, check out their upcoming benefit show for Toys for Tots at the Marquis Theatre on December 9th.

PDA is known to be a very highly charged political band.  We are handing you a soapbox. Please go on an epic rant on what’s wrong with the world.

The easiest way to think of us is as an anti-everything mindset. We are anti BOTH parties, anti-government, anti-religion, anti-corporate greed. The powers that be are the greed and lust that drive the worst parts of humankind. We are tired of seeing atrocities thrust onto us and considered the status quo. Our stage is our soapbox. We rant every time we don the mask and stand under the lights.

The new drummer, Frankie Four Fingers, obviously left an impression on you guys or he wouldn’t be the new drummer. What is it about his talent that you were drawn to the most? Have you known him for a while or did you guys only meet at the audition?

We have actually known him for a while, but it wasn’t until the interview and the following month of practices that we realized we actually knew him. We just figured he was small and easy to control. Plus, if our tour bus ever gets stranded during a snowstorm, we can make a blanket out of his body hair.

Tell us about yourself, Frankie Four Fingers. What drew you to PDA, what are your hobbies outside of music, and do you actually have four fingers? Have you all been getting along?

Of course I have four fingers, and a thumb on each hand even! One of the things that really drew me to these hairless monkeys was their approach to music: their professionalism, their no bullshit policy, and to how they go about making their business of metal.

Outside of the band I am quite partial to video games, reading, and studying the mind of a serial killer.  And we get along peachy.

With Frankie joining the band, what are you guys most excited about for future projects?  How do you feel the music will change from his input in the future?

Although our future remains FUZZY…we will not STRAY from the cause. We will continue to SHED light on both the PUBElic atrocities as well as those at the ROOT, even if the path gets HAIRY.

As pizza enthusiasts, what are your thoughts of pineapple on pizza? What is the worst pizza you’ve ever had and what’s the ultimate pizza topping combo.  Go per member if need be.

Universally, pineapple on pizza is worse than death.

Frankie Four Fingers= Pepperoni and jalapenos.

Dashing Kenny Daggers= White sauce, chicken, artichoke hearts, green peppers, garlic, onions, and moz.

James Aggression= Beer cheese and steak

Rage= Italian sausage, green peppers, white sauce.

Tommy Mayhem= Anything supreme, minus black olives.

Are you guys excited to have Dennis Shinn as a producer on your album To Live and Die in Your Suit and Tie? What will he bring to the album that wasn’t as prominent as before?

We are extremely excited for his wisdom and guidance on our album. We love how big and aggressive he has made our voice.

If Guy Fawkes was alive today do you think he would be a metalhead or something else? How do you think he would react to the world today?

We feel Guy Fawks would be into a hybrid of jazz fusion and gangsta j-pop. Although he’d bump To Live And Die In Your Suit And Tie while working out, and that’s still cool with us.

We know he’d STILL want to blow everything up, but even more now.

PDA will be performing at an upcoming charity show supporting Toys for Tots on December 9th at the Marquis Theatre in Denver. What made you guys want to get involved? Will the band be donating toys, too?

Wait… the toys aren’t for us?!

I guess we’ll have to get all these toys we’ve been accruing together to give to them. We truly feel all kids should have new toys for Christmas. It’s the one time everyone deserve some fun and joy, a reprieve from the cold.

What were your favorite toys growing up? What are your favorite toys now? How do you celebrate the holidays? Feel free to rant again if need be.

We all loved, and honestly still do, Legos. Be it Bionicles, Star Wars, or just old fashioned imagination.

“Christmas” is one of those things that having grown up in a Christian nation has been engraved into our lives. The idea used to mean something, but has now become a corporate drive for greed. Even taking a look at it from a Christian perspective, Christmas is on December 25th solely to help pagans transition from their religion into Christianity, because of convenience. Family tradition of a honeyed ham? Pagan. Mistletoe? Pagan.

I digress…

Krampus vs Santa in a fight pit.  Please do a blow by blow of the fight and who wins. And yes, reindeer can help.

Krampus. Easy. Santa is big and jolly. Krampus is known for literally carrying around chains and sticks to whip children. Even if Santa had his reindeer, Krampus still has his evil elves and Christmas traps and stuff.

What are PDA’s plans and goals for 2018? Is there anything else you would like to share?

Tour. Our main goal at this point, having our album done by Dennis “The Menace” Shinn, is to leave our mark and have our phrase running through everyone’s minds: We don’t fuck around.

I can’t believe that it’s been 20 years since I started this band back in 1997.
I couldn’t be more excited to share this unique package, along with the true / uncensored story of how it all begin.
This was something that only a small community of people in NYC were able to share with us, back in the day.
To be able to bring this to our fans all across the world 20 years later is surreal for me..
I designed the entire package myself and I went to great lengths to create something that our Die Hard fans would greatly appreciate.

Marshall Beck Resigns as Reign of Vengeance Frontman

Death Metallers, Reign of Vengeance, announce new vocalist and new EP The Final Aeon For All Humans.

Reign in Vengeance announces their new vocalist The Illuminated Man. Shrouded in mystery, The Illuminated Man will be replacing former vocalist Marshall Beck. Before stepping down Beck had this to say…

“I’d have liked to continue on with Reign of Vengeance. However, given the material of this EP it seems better that I step down as Reign of Vengeance’s frontman and hand over the responsibilities to an entity which has been fully rehabilitated by the ever expanding government and state. He seems to be better suited for this job and band now.”

Enter the Illuminated Man: He is a Master of Finance, a Master of Brutality, and a Master of Psychological Warfare upon the common populace of all humans which he (like the government) believes to be nothing more than consumers and vermin filth...

The Illuminated Man’s vocals appear on Reign of Vengeance’s upcoming EP The Final Aeon For All Humans.

Heat of Damage Release Official Music Video for “The Gift”

California Rock/Metal Band Heat of Damage has released the Official Music Video for “The Gift”, the debut single off of their upcoming sophomore LP, due out next year. “The Gift” was shot and directed by Ethan Parilla of Atrocious Works Productions.

“The Gift” is a new direction for Heat Of Damage. We wanted to take a heavier approach to our music after our previous release, ‘Open Fire’, and ‘The Gift’ is a perfect beginning for that. – David Haug

We’re very proud of this one. We hope our listeners enjoy the song and the new video! – Julian Bohland

Heat Of Damage consists of four talented young musicians who write, produce, and perform an edgy and eclectic mix of hard rock and metal music. Their self-produced EP, Orenda, debuted in 2013.

Since then, the band has performed at numerous venues in the Northern California area. The group released their second EP, Lifestyle, in September 2014. The title track was featured on 98 Rock’s Local Licks program for three weeks running. Lifestyle’s “Apocalypse” was released soon after and earned a spot on 98 Rock’s Local Licks Most Liked Song of 2014 Countdown Show. The song came in at #2 for the year!

Following the successes of Lifestyle, the band entered the studio with Sacramento engineer and producer Matt Thomas to record their first full-length album, Open Fire, which was released in October of 2015.

Open Fire was well received following its release, garnering overwhelmingly positive reviews from a wide variety of writers and music critics. The song “Heaven” was the #6 Most Liked Song of 2015 for 98 Rock’s Local Licks, despite only having two months of airplay during the year.

The group is well known for their musicality and showmanship. Shows are high-energy, engaging, and memorable. Their musical range is impressive, with an ability to provide anything from an incredible rock show to an unforgettable metal experience, for any venue’s style and crowd. Heat Of Damage never disappoints!
