Trash Deity Tease Out Second Glimpse of Upcoming ‘Run 4 Your Lies!’ Album

Industrial Rock project Trash Deity, the duo of My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult’s Groovie Mann and Blue Eyed Christ’s John D. Norten, have released the second taste of their upcoming Run 4 Your Lies! album in the form of the single and Official Music Video for the title track. Originally premiered on Paste Magazine, “Run 4 Your Lies!” was directed by Neil Kull.

“Run 4 Your Lies!” is a maniac chant to raise the bored to Trash the dancefloor to create some electricity for the body dancing next to them! – Groovie Mann

“Run 4 Your Lies!” is the Chaos and Confusion of our Modern Times wrapped in a Hypnotic Industrial Dance Groove with a Throbbing Bass Pounding to the Universal Beat! – John D. Norten

The combination of their shared Wax Trax! history, the experiences of their divergent musical paths, along with Groovie’s trademark crooning growls over Norten’s polished soundscapes, all come together to create an auditory experience recalling both the history of the industrial music movement and the future possibilities of the genre! – Paste Magazine

Hailing from Los Angeles with roots in the legendary Chicago Wax Trax!scene comes the new duo Trash Deity. Combining the chaos and energy of the classic Wax Trax! sound updated with hard and modern production, Trash Deity is Groovie Mann aka Franke N. Nardiello (My Life With The Thrill Kill Kultfrontman/writer) and accomplished music producer and industrial artist JDNaka John D. Norten (Blue Eyed Christ). Their debut Single, “Finger on a Trigger”, combines classic Groovie Mann vocals and cryptic lyrics with an infectious heavy electronic/guitar groove benefitting from JDN’s studio experience mixing and engineering major artists. The accompanying Music Video is comprised entirely of manipulated shots of paintings from the twisted imagination and eccentric mind of Groovie Mann. The debut 4 song EP, Run 4 Your Lies!, will follow soon.

I think the forthcoming EP is a really exciting representation of Groovie Mann and I experimenting and discovering what our sound is as Trash Deity. It’s an eclectic EP because we weren’t locked into a sound or expectation from our previous projects. One song is electronic for the clubs with a pounding bass line and signature Groovie Mann maniacal vocal chants, then another is a sexy dirty strip club anthem. Each song has it’s own identity, but the EP still sounds totally cohesive and chaotic at the same time…just like us! – JDN

What was the earliest influence in your life that led you to a music career?

the vibrations from my mother’s record player that she kept under my crib. She was 19. – Groovie Mann

The defining moment for me was my first concert, Duran Duran, when I was in 6th grade. I looked around and thought…”That’s what I want”. It was a very powerful image at that time and age, Nick Rhodes with the Fairlight Sampling Keyboard and the futuristic sights and sounds. The music and lyrics were very mysterious inviting me into their world and I was very intrigued. – JDN

Nardiello’s informally structured and yet deeply storied career began with his first band, Special Affect, including Marti Sorenson & Harry Rushakoff (Concrete Blonde) with Al Jourgensen (Ministry) on guitar. Shortly after, he moved to London working with Simon Raymonde of Cocteau Twins with post-punk band Drowning Craze recording a John Peel session in 1982. While touring with Ministry in 1986, he met and began working with Buzz McCoy(Marston Daley) to write a film titled Hammerhead Housewife and the Thrill Kill Kult, which was never filmed but ultimately evolved into TKK and an EP released with Wax Trax! Records. Over the next nearly 30 years, Groovie Mann has established his iconic reputation through multiple releases with TKK and contributed songs to several movie soundtracks, even appearing in the 1994 cult classic film The Crow. He’s also established himself as an accomplished painter in the LA art community. His uniquely abstract style offers a further peak into the mind and art of Groovie Mann and are sold to fans around the world.

What would you consider to be the ‘crossroads’ that directly led to you actively pursuing a musical career?

My Insanity. – Groovie Mann

I would say my first Blue Eyed Christ record deal with KK Records in Belgium right out of High School for Leaders + Followers. It legitimized what I was doing for the first time and made me realize people outside of my bedroom studio may be interested in what I was doing. – JDN

John D. Norten also emerged from the 1990s Chicago Industrial scene as the leader of Blue Eyed Christ. The debut album Leaders + Followers was released internationally on Belgians classic EBM/Industrial label KK Records while still in his teens. Over the next few years, Blue Eyed Christ was featured on several prominent compilations and played the prestigious New Music Seminar in 1992 at the Limelight with Clock DVA and Chemlab. Blue Eyed Christ continued playing visceral live shows throughout the 90s and Norten continued recording at Chicago Trax Recording Studios working with established musicians and engineers from Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, etc. In 1996, Norten relocated to Los Angeles and has established himself as an in demand mixer and engineer for many of the biggest artists in the world including The Black Eyed PeasPrinceCeeLo Green, and Lady GaGa.

How are you inspired to start a song and how does that develop from writing to composition, recording, and completion? What was the process for this project?

Jump into it -improvise with & without notes, laugh cry & argue with the producer. – Groovie Mann

I usually start with the drums and music, but really anything can be the creative spark. When I first met with Groovie Mann he came over and I played him a bunch of instrumental tracks I had and he choose the ones that inspired him the most lyrically. He would write to them while he paints at home and then come over with notebooks full of ideas and inspirational goodies. Once we wrote the lyrics and recorded his vocals, I’d go back in and add more music and elements and we’d arrange that into the song. The whole process was very organic. – JDN

The four tracks making up Run 4 Your Lies! ultimately reflect both their shared roots as well as their unique, individual approaches to their craft. Groovie Mann’s spontaneous and poetic lyrical reactions to JDN’s carefully constructed song productions makes for a compelling mix of something new with enough of a nod to the past sure to please the old school fans and the popular emerging newer generation as well.

I had a lot of fun writing and recording Queen Of Sin – our first EP that comes out June 2nd. It has a nice diversity of rock subgenres – you can find some post-hardcore, nu-metal, alternative tunes in it. ‘QoS’ is a sort of defial for those who say rock and sex can’t go together. “Make Rock Sexy Again.” We wanted to get a mix of hard rock tunes and guitar riffs with sensual feminine vocals and dominatrix attitude. – Moscow

Call her Tsaritsa (queen) like the Russian rockers all do, or call her Moscow – her nom de guerre in the international music scene – but you are going to call (attention to) this talented young lady who embodies the rebellious spirit of rock and the consummate class of royalty.

Young, Russian, Free and Beautiful, a 16-year Moscow (then known as Elizaveta Tursunova) struck out on her own to explore the world. Not wanting to be tied down to the wealthy young businessmen who had been trying to impress her, her young Russian schoolmates that adored her, or the rockers on the scene who hung on her every word, she fled to Cambridge, England.

Never satisfied to stay in one place or know only one way of life, Moscow traveled to and lived in London, Paris, New York and Los Angeles, growing even more bold and worldly with every stop.

From the age of 15, Moscow was a part of the Russian music scene. “In Russia, the market is dominated by cheap pop music. It is next to impossible for a rock/metal band to break out. I hung out with some really dedicated and talented people, they taught me not to give up,” Moscow remembers. “They all thought I was older – I think I celebrated my 18th birthday for 5 years straight.” When she was in Cambridge and New York, Moscow was trained in musical theater and became a triple threat – dancing, singing and acting. “Musical theater will always be in my heart. Anytime I visit Broadway or the West End, I must go see a new musical. In London, I became friends with the cast of Rock Of Ages,” she explained. She decided to bring that musical’s premise to life and become the rocker she was destined to be.

Throughout her travels, there was something missing… something she found in Los Angeles. The Sunset Strip music scene spoke to her sense of rock history and her musical style. Having read about all her favorite artists’ lives in Los Angeles (Motley CrueSteven TylerSlash) the Sunset Strip seemed surreal to Moscow. It was there that she put down roots to record her material and the “Queen of Sin” video. Her approach is summed up by her quote “In popular music, I believe it’s time to look back to our roots – the richness of Muddy Waters, the theatricality of Alice Cooper, the romanticized excess of Motley Crue – and combine what we learn from them with a 21st century outlook,” says Moscow.

The team of Shawn McGhee (Hideout Studios – HellyeahFive Finger Death PunchPapa Roach) and Brian Steel Madina (Gemini Syndrome) produced “Queen of Sin.’ “Working with Moscow was straight fire. From the moment she walked in the studio we knew she had something amazing to offer,” says producer, Shawn McGhee. “She has the attitude and the talent to back it up,” adds co-producer, Brian Steel Madina. “It’s refreshing to work with someone who has such a clear vision of her endgame. Moscow is a force to be reckoned with.”

She collaborated with RAGE (Trivium, Hatebreed, Escape The Fate) on the “Queen of Sin” video – making it an epic presentation of her talent, power and beauty. “She fit her name, one would think she’s already toured the world several times and have sold a few million albums… On set she was fearless, her natural charisma just overwhelms you…even my crew, some of whom are just hip hop heads, as well as some of the background talent were all asking for her autograph and wanting pictures by the end of the day,” explains RAGE. “She was transforming herself in that very moment and it was with no effort, because in my opinion not only is MOSCOW ready to sneak attack the world of rock and metal but she is truly and wonderfully…’The Queen of Sin’. “

Just breaking into her 20s and breaking into the music world, she is wise beyond her years. “We all have God and the devil in us. That is where the spark for ‘Queen of Sin’ came from,” she explains. That spark is destined to set the rock world afire in 2017!

Fall Of Man Release Official Video for “Lullaby”

LA Based, Melodic Metal band Fall Of Man has released the Official Music video for “Lullaby”. Filmed and directed by Evan Cantrell and Greg McKarus at New Kingdom Productions, “Lullaby” is off of their 2016 EP Hallways and Doors.

Lullaby is about my own experience with spiritual warfare – specifically in the form of evil, demonic dreams. I had those types of dreams ever since I was a small child and they intensified up ’til just a few years ago. Both the song and video represent the process I’ve gone though to gain the upper hand over those evil, demonic forces. – Erica Barile

Fall Of Man was formed in 2009 by childhood friends Mike Lane (drums) and Giovanni “G” Barile (guitar).

Several months after Mike and G started jamming together, Ben Reiss (bassist) joined the band. The three of them remained an all-instrumental act until 2012. While in the process of searching for a lead vocalist, Erica Barile jumped in to lay melodies over some of their tracks. After a few rehearsals, things started falling into place – she’s been their front woman ever since.

Ben Reiss made his exit in 2013 and shortly after Dan Scala became Fall Of Man’s bassist.

Fall Of Man played their first show at the City National Grove of Anaheim, followed by performances at The Whisky A Go GoHouse Of Blues Sunset Strip, and Canyon Club. They’ve opened for acts including Rhapsody of FireOTEPOne-Eyed DollJames Durbin, and Amorphis.

Their latest EP Hallways and Doors dropped on April 30, 2016.

The band is currently booking shows in the Los Angeles area for summer ’17 and will be recording new tracks this fall.

If you’re in the mood for something loud, heavy, rich, and melodic, Fall of Man will satisfy your musical appetite; wrapping an appealing combination of sounds and genres into one brilliantly unique package. If you like powerful yet delicate vocals, thoughtful and bold lyrics, chunky and memorable riffs, heavy drums, along with a rich, complex, and original composition style, you’ll dig Fall Of Man.

Willamena Release Inspiring “When You Close Your Eyes,” Off of Upcoming ‘Strong Enough to Last’ EP

Kalamazoo, MI, based Alternative Indie Rock Band Willamena has released the lead single off of their upcoming Strong Enough to Last, “When You Close Your Eyes.” Originally premiered on Paste Magazine, “When You Close Your Eyes” has already garnered extensive radio plays and praise across Mainstream Rock, Alternative, and College radio throughout the United States, Canada, and even Australia.

Early Praise for “When You Close Your Eyes:”

Uplifting and Inspiring, this track is timely for a world that seems more focused on scandals and negativity, and a much needed respite from the darkness being thrown at us every day. But it’s not just the lyrics that make this track so special; “When You Close Your Eyes” is both refreshingly new but comfortably reminiscent of the best of 80s and 90s college rock.Paste Magazine

Clearly, Lucas Ross is a great rock vocalist, and carries dynamics the the Fred Neil did, and Rob Thomas and Bono still doK-Zap (KZHP, Sacramento)

Willamena creates a true audible experience that is both savory and delicious…With laser focused precision and pinpoint accuracy, Willamena delivers music that is destined to be in your arsenal of playlists.Rob Figarola (Daily Unsigned)

Willamena is a rarity — a nationally-charting genuine indie band. Strong Enough to Last (mixed by Grammy-winner Cameron Webb) is the band’s sixth studio effort, and advance single “When You Close Your Eyes (Radio Mix)” was on the radio even before the EP went to replication. So all the arrows continue to point “up” for the award-winning #1 Kalamazoo rock act (dubbed “the hardest-working band in Michigan” – music.AllAccess.com 10/20/15) whose music has aired from Japan to Montana to Greece.

Their fifth release, The Light Ahead hit the streets and the airwaves in January, 2015. Before the release date of The Light Ahead lead-off single, “The Other Side of Loneliness,” debuted at #5 on the Billboard AAA indicator most-added chart (1/17/15), started at #3 in AAA downloads and streams on radio-servicer PlayMPE.com (1/2/15), and jumped straight onto the FMQB AAA top-200 singles chart at #110 (1/20/15) – all without professional promotion or a publicist. “The Other Side…” peaked at #87 on the FMQB singles chart, stopped only by a lack of “promo” spending. The EP itself climbed directly to #1 on Amazon.com’s “Hot New Releases” Adult Alternative list (1/17/15) and cracked the top-100 on the FMQB AAA non-comm album chart. The follow-up single, “If This Is Love,” charted nationally as well, and third single “Way Back When” spun on over 200 radio stations world-wide. As RadioInfo.com observed, “… it’s definitely a marketable sound that makes for some hit triple-A playlists… and hot AC/AC stations that wait patiently for their turn …. We are keeping our ears on them. So should you.” (RadioInfo.com “pick of the week” 1/14/15).

But “The Light Ahead” was no flash in the pan. Willamena has been impressing programmers, critics and fans for years. The band’s 2013 CD Lost in the Shadows and its tracks charted nationally in six radio formats: Top 40, Hot AC, Triple A, Active Rock, Americana, and College. At least 180 terrestrial stations in six countries aired something from “Lost…” not counting syndicated-show affiliates that pushed the total well over 300. Several critics predicted the success of “Lost in the Shadows” from the get-go:

“… [U]ndeniably infectious rock…” “… [T]he standout tracks… could do some serious damage on U.S. radio in 2013. And that means there are songs on this album you’ll likely be humming in your sleep.” John Sinkevics, Revue Magazine and http://www.LocalSpins.com

“… [Lost… has] a very polished sound that suits their seemingly effortless radio-ready rock anthems perfectly… [It] should help… give them the national attention they… rightfully deserve.” – Justin Kreitzer

“Lost in the Shadows” followed 2004’s “Far From the Current.” “… Current” aired on then-emerging AAA stations from Seattle to Staten Island to satellite (XM Unsigned’s “most notable” and “most played” lists) on a near-zero budget and made its own mark in the music world:

“Willamena… turn the Northern superiority complex against itself with devastating results in ‘Rock-n-Roll.” Dave Queen, Village Voice 9/26/05 re: “… Current”

“I keep thinking, how could a band with this talent and sound not be on a big label… will these guys ever run out of hooks?” Bill Ribas, NYRock.com 3/5/2005 re: “… Current” 3/5/2005 re: “… Current”

“…[P]op rock, in the vein of Matchbox 20, Counting Crows, modern U2, etc… a familiar rock sound culled from decades past, [but] the sheer craftsmanship… in the music keeps [it] from coming across as a stale rehash… Comparisons aside, Lucas Ross is a great rock vocalist…” Alan Moore, LoveLaborMusic.com 6/14/2005 re: “… Current”

But by the time “… Current” was released, what became the music industry’s (and Michigan’s) unprecedented decline was already underway. For one snapshot of the milieu, a story in the Grand Rapids Press about “… Current” was titled “Willamena revives music scene in Grand Rapids.” (Tricia Woolfenden, Grand Rapids Press 2/5/04). Part of another writer’s review offers a clue, too:

“Perhaps the real risk for Willamena is writing a great album that no one will hear.” Nick Stephenson, Recoil, 2/04.

Simply put, after “… Current” came out, tough times got tougher. Willamena’s home base between the coasts and lack of industry connections (or cash) had always hampered the band; what turned out to be “the big crash” didn’t help. Neither did Napster, or NAFTA, or club closings, or slashed label rosters, or the cratered economy which scattered so many Michiganders, and the band, around the country seeking work. In mid-2009 the band went on a reluctant hiatus.

So despite winning the 142-band WBFX/Aris Hampers Rock Search in 2001… and despite making head-turning original rock like the 2002 CD Ghost of July which produced rave reviews like these:

“Willamena are the Derek Jeters of local music… Along with their kick-butt live shows… “Ghost of July” is putting these cats on the bus that says “Major League…” Buddah Worthmore, Music Revue, 5/2002

“’Ghost of July’ could be the most solid release from a local band this year – a sonically-superior recording showcasing emotional performances and… gifted songwriting… highly recommended…” Recoil Magazine, 6/2002

… and despite headlining at premier clubs from Milwaukee to Manhattan and outdoor festivals, and opening for national acts like Fishbone, The Why Store, and SR-71… and despite earning “… the reputation of being the hardest-working act in Michigan…” (The Buzz, TheIndustryResource.com 12/22/04)… and despite maintaining the title of “… the hardest-working band in Michigan…” (Carly Plank, Revue Magazine 6/20/13) years later… Willamena remained unsigned and, largely, undiscovered.

Undiscovered, that is, until the rise of internet radio, and LPFM, and the Triple A radio format, and accessible technology that brought Willamena’s music out of obscurity. Beginning in 2011, world-class recording pros including Gravity StudiosDoug McBride (Fall Out Boy, Rachael Yamagata, Veruca Salt), Grammy winner John Seymour (U2, Santana, Dave Matthews Band) and Grammy winner Cameron Webb (Kelly Clarkson, Social Distortion, Motorhead) began to take an interest in the band, contributing their talents on various tracks (and on decidedly non-major-label budgets). Throughout 2012, ‘13, and ‘14 radio stations all over the U.S. and internationally-syndicated programs latched on to Willamena’s hook-filled songs, and the stage was set for 2015’s “The Light Ahead.”

Music fans around the world have been figuring out what the major labels have missed so far: Willamena has the goods. Strong Enough to Last is another collection of original, radio-ready Midwestern rock n’ roll, and it’s set to line the band up toe-to-toe with major-label acts on radio playlists around the globe.

“‘… Clearly, Lucas Ross is a great rock vocalist, and carries dynamics the way that Fred Neil did, and Rob Thomas and Bono still do…” KZHP Sacramento

“There is plenty to like here and these guys should really make a splash on the music scene… Expect great things from Willamena. They’ve got the chops to achieve them… 4.5 stars (out of 5).” – G.W. Hill re: “Lost in the Shadows”

“… Their music is ready made to fill arenas…” John Verburg, WestMichiganIndie.com

Hogan’s Goat Releases Lead Single Off Of Debut Album

Nashville, TN based, Hard Rock Band Hogan’s Goat has released the first single, “Shit Kicker”, off of their debut, self-titled album. Due out July 18th, Hogan’s Goat was self-produced, mixed by Alex Gilson and Nathan Zensen at Gold Cassette and mastered by Tommy Dorsey.

“You might like it, you might hate it. I don’t know what you fuckin’ like.” – Wayne Michel (Drums)

Named after a tale from Scottish folklore, the band initially formed in late 2014. As the story goes, a farmer (Hogan) owned a goat rumored to have an odor said to travel miles away. The goat’s been described as having patchy fur, an eye out of socket, and flies abound . For the band, this perfectly symbolized their unorthodox style, that which is anything but unnoticeable.

Their first show (at SXSW, on the rooftop of The Blind Pig) was part of an all Nashville (non-country) showcase. Soon after, HG returned to Nashville, competed in BMI’s “Road To Bonnaroo” (winning the fan vote) and played many other shows around the Nashville area. In March of 2016, Hogan’s Goat began recording their first LP, “Hogan’s Goat” which is set to release July 18th, 2017. The band looks to tour regionally, nationally, and globally.
