“From the start, it’s clear why Prong have made such an impression on the music scene. They have a sound bigger than the sum of the three people on stage, and they know how to use it. It’s like someone has weaponised metal, and they’re using the audience for aural target practice. It’s impressive, and it’s also really, really fucking good” – Outline Online UK

By the time PRONG had signed to Epic Records in 1989, the New York City post-metal triumvirate had already accomplished a lot. The band, formed by guitarist and vocalist Tommy Victor, sound-man at the legendary club CBGB’salong with the club’s doorman Mike Kirkland and ex-Swans drummer Ted Parsons had already released two independent records: the Primitive OriginsEP (1987) and Force Fed (1988).

A show at the old Ritz in New York with New York hardcore legends Cro-Magsand German thrashers Destruction was what sealed a deal with Epic Records. “Signing with a major label was very much a matter of survival,” Victor explained to Britain’s Kerrang! magazine in 1990. “We aren’t high school kids living with our parents.” Survive and thrive was more like it for PRONG. 1990’s Beg To Differ became an instant genre classic. Songs like the epic title track or the tightly disciplined and sonically dynamic Lost and Found further carved out the band’s innovative deconstruction of metal’s excesses.

“We never saw ourselves as just a metal band,” stated Victor. “Our riffs, lyrics and ideas were minimal but conveyed everything we felt and everything we saw going on around us living in New York City in the 80’s. A lot of what I had to say was pretty reactionary. Disneyland hadn’t moved in yet.”

Over the course of their next three major label releases: Prove You Wrong, (1991) Cleansing (1994) and Rude Awakening (1996), PRONG charted an innovative course. It was actually the Whose Fist Is This Anyway?-EP that ushered in PRONG’s best-known era. The EP was comprised of five remixes from the Prove You Wrong album: introducing a heavier groove and experiments in electronics that gave rise to PRONG’s best known and best selling work:Cleansing.

“We saw where we felt things in metal and hardcore could go and we rolled the dice a bit,” says Tommy of the band’s watershed release. With keyboardist John Bechdel and former Killing Joke bassist Paul RavenCleansingcemented PRONG’s position as a mainstream metal mainstay. The album’s single “Snap Your Fingers Snap Your Neck” has been up there in the top 100 riffs ever in Kerrang! After years of toiling on the fringes – propelled by touring with the likes of White Zombie and Pantera – PRONG had arrived.

Rude Awakening was a natural follow-up. Informed by classic post-punk influences like Killing Joke and like-minded Brits Head of David, it showcased PRONG’s continued move into more industrial territory. From the jarring lead song “Controller” to the sweeping chords of the title track, it was PRONG’s most mature and fulfilled work to date. It was also to be PRONG’s last for Epic. The band and label parted ways just weeks after the album’s release. The history of PRONG has cast a long shadow – bands like KornSlipknot, and Nine Inch Nails openly acknowledge their influence.

GEARS Release Official Music Video for “King”

Miami, FL hard rock band GEARS has released the Official Music Video for their track, “King,” the first single off of their upcoming EP.

“Society has become so soft and forgiving, that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes you can’t just live and let live. Sometimes you have to confront those that stand between you and what you want to achieve. It’s not always pretty, and it’s not always peaceful, but not everything can be resolved using our inside voices.” – Jimmy Wooten

Miami based hard/heavy rock act GEARS isn’t your average start-up garage band. Despite being confronted with a near disastrous setback at the cusp of their debut, headlining tour, jarring line-up changes, and financial challenges, the band has persevered and rebuilt.

Founded in February 2014, Trip 6 (Urban Rebel), Eli Parker (Endo), Tommy Herres (SCARLET CARSON) and Jimmy Wooten (SKINMASK) were all looking for new projects as their old ones had run their course.

We all wanted to do something more modern, but still rang true to our influences. Something that we could aggressively market and tour on. So, we all met up in Miami after months of talking about doing something together and what came out was the first EP, “Set in Motion.”

They released Set in Motion in May 2014, immediately launching into their first headline run with support from I-Exist. Just three days into the tour, their equipment trailer disconnected, resulting in a massive, horrific accident; not only did they lose their gear, but the tour van was totaled and the band members sustained serious injury. In spite of this tremendous blow, the group endured and continued the tour without missing a beat.

Later it developed that two of the founding members were unable to continue, leaving the band reeling and having to replace them with skilled, compatible substitutes:

I was talking with a mutual friend, Joe Taback (12 Gauge Embrace) about needing a guitar player for GEARS because we let go of Eli and he suggested Bobby Thomas. I called him and showed him the songs and he was ready to go. As far as bass, I knew Chris from when Needlemouth was a thing out in Cali and I always liked his playing and he was super laid back & cool. I knew both of these dudes were definite upgrades at their instruments and were a better fit personality wise than what we had to deal with previously.

In June 2015, Wooten and Six teamed with Corey Lowery (Saint AsoniaStuck MojoStereomudDark New Day) and Troy Mclawhorn(EvanescenceSeetherDark New Day) on their new EP Pride Comes Before the Fall, and announced the addition of new members Bobby Thomas and Chris Dorame.

They hit the road for their Riser Tour, once again with I-Exist, in July, wrapping up the run in September, but kept the momentum going with the digital release and lyric video for their debut single off of P_ride Comes Before the Fall_, “Face Down”. The band rounded out the year with the release of their much anticipated sophomore EP on November 10th, with a tour in January 2016.

Before spending most of 2017 touring with the likes of The Bunny The BearSeasons After and Bridge to Grace, Trip and Jimmy went back into the studio with Corey Lowery to begin working on new music. “KING” is the first single released to come out of those sessions and also features Clint Lowery on guitar.

We’re still moving forward and, despite everything that has been an obstacle in the short time we’ve been a band, everything still keeps growing and getting better.

Nitish Pires Releases Official Music Video for “It’s My Way” & New Album, ‘Am I Evil’!

Mumbai, India based alternative rock singer / songwriter Nitish Pires has released the official music video for the single “It’s My Way,” off of the new LP, Am I Evil.

In May 2014 Pires took a well-earned break from music to travel the world to discover inspirations that would all accumulate into his latest work, Am I Evil. The album was released on February 18th and followed the release of the first single, “Cold”, back in December.

Beginning his musical journey back in 1999 with the formation of his Rock band Nakshatra, releasing one album – “Gulfam” – entirely penned by Pires, and released on Universal Music. In 2007 he had his first stab at a solo career, creating two albums named “Sarhadein” and “Chauraha”, the latter released under the self-titled band name “De Nitish Pires Band”. In addition he has composed numerous tracks for television adverts across India for the companies Vodafone, Nokia and Fila and has even composed an entire score for the feature film Soch Lo.

Pires has been no stranger to travelling, dubbed “the revolutionary roadie” by the Mumbai Mirror and proclaimed as the first Indian to tour to promote his music by The Times India when touring through 25 cities in his country to attract attention to his album Chauraha. His none stop work at this time earned his album a nomination for Best Indian Rock Album at the prestigious G.I.M.Aawards. Pires followed this up with another Pan-India bike riding tour, covering 3500 Kilometres, spreading his message; “You are free, if you choose to be.” Pires’ 4 year backpacking adventure, from 2014, ended with a collection of 200 songs recorded in places ranging from dense jungles to public transport such as the metro. He used his mobile recorder to get his artistic ideas down immediately, and whilst throughout this journey he whittled his catalogue down to 11 tracks that conveyed the same message, albeit in different ways, to put on his recently released album, Am I Evil.

Upon returning to his home town in Goa, Pires set about recording his songs properly using the juxtaposition of his laptop and native instruments to create a unique sound. His inspirations from Rock legends of old, Jimi HendrixPink Floyd and Black Sabbath combined with Pires’ driven and tenacious nature and his DIY style – using pillows and duvets to change his bed room into a suitable recording room – gives the album a down-to-Earth and honest background with a rock atmosphere, akin to Arcade FireNickelback and recent Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Track List:
1. Fade Away
2. Crazy BC-AD
3. Johny 006
4. You Fake
5. Need You
6. Big Black Wings

GLASS HANDS Release Official Music Video for “WAITING ROOM”

Indiana metalcore band GLASS HANDS has released the Official Music Video for their single “Waiting Room.” Filmed, directed, and edited by Brian “Bone” Thorburn at Threshold Studios in Indianapolis, based on concepts from Glass Hands and Brian “Bone” Thorburn, “Waiting Room” is the debut single off of Glass Hand’s upcoming EP.

“Waiting Room is a song about watching yourself become a negative, apathetic person without the strength to do anything about it; feeling like you’re just waiting around until the end. Like anyone, each of us in the band have had our own internal battles, and we think that the feeling of numbness in depression is something a lot of people can relate to, and that’s what we wanted to do with this song. We wanted to relate.” – Glass Hands

Los Angeles based hard rock band VYCES started in the summer of 2014 when Chicago native Dave Naruszewicz was looking to work on a new project following the disbandment of his former group Heart-Set Self-Destruct. After years of touring with such bands as FilterHell YeahVolbeatPop Evil, etc.., he realized it was time for change. He spent time working with other musicians in the Chicago music scene looking to feed his passion as an artist but he did not find what he was looking for. Dave’s vision was not deterred, so he decided to reach out to longtime friend and drummer, Russell Ray (formerly of Old Fashioned Beatdown).

Dave began flying to Los Angeles from Chicago twice a month to build something new, original, and undeniable. Russ then reached out to guitarist, Shawn Patterson (also formerly for Old Fashioned Beatdown). The three began writing demos together and also sending ideas back and forth over the internet which ultimately became the foundation of VYCES.

After a few trips to LA they decided to go into the studio with producer Augustus Cryns (Butcher BabiesStitched Up Heart, etc..), and also featured Mark James Klepaski (Formerly of Breaking Benjamin, and Lifer) on bass. After a year of writing and recording the band had finished 22 songs of true emotion, and power. Being compared to such artists as ChevelleKorn, and Red, they have sonically created a solid blend of active rock and metal. Dave describes the soul of the songs as exploring the darker side of human emotion and behavior saying “It’s something everyone can relate to because everyone has experienced some form of hurt, betrayal, weakness, hate, addiction, and/or lack of acceptance. It’s also the fuel that drives us to become stronger, get better, and overcome the flaws we’ve built in our minds.”

In October 2016 VYCES released their debut EP “DEVILS” and released a music video for the single “DEVIL” shot by Ron Underwood. From October through November of that year the band embarked on a the HELLRZZR TOURwhich trekked across the U.S performing in 29 cities in 33 days.

VYCES spent the beginning of 2017 working on new material in between hitting the road on three national tours playing shows with Otherwise, Powerman 5000, etc.. In June 2017, the band released it’s first radio single titled “NOCTURNAL” accompanied by another music video shot by Ron Underwood, and features Butcher Babies own Carla Harvey. ‘Nocturnal’ reached #38 on the Mediabase Active Rock Charts making it their first top 40 single.

VYCES is currently preparing for 2018 with the release of their highly anticipated new single, ‘THIN LUCK’ which impacts national radio on 02/06/18 and will be on tour all year long.
