RadioBlack partner with INgrooves to Release “Thread (I Am)”

California Rock Band RadioBlack have partnered with Legend Distribution / INgrooves to launch their action packed single “Thread (I Am).” After signing with CB Entertainment Artist Management firm in 2017, this year will see a new single in March with a full-length album in May followed by extensive touring.

“‘Thread’ is about that friend you have that gets themselves in a rut and can’t break out of it… no matter how much you try to help them. It’s about that inner struggle to want to help those people but make sure you come out unscathed yourself.” – TJ Courtney (vocals / guitar)

Shortly after recording at the Foo Fighters’ private Studio 606, lead singer/guitarist TJ Courtney brought in drummer Derek Gledhill, founding member of Smile Empty Soul, and bassist Hayato Takano to form RadioBlack. The 3-piece’s sound is a melodic mixture of grunge and 90’s inspired alt-rock that incorporates modern production elements.

The 606 sessions were recorded through the famed Sound City Neve 8028analog console, previously graced by the likes of NirvanaRage Against The Machine, and Paul McCartney. Producer John “Lou” Lousteau arranged dream collaborations for Courtney with Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy), Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction), and Mick Murphy (My RuinChevy Metal). The production team was rounded out by “Sound City” documentary producer Jim Rota, and Brad Smith of Blind Melon. These recordings will be featured on Radio Black’s debut album, slated for release next spring.

The remainder of the album was recorded with producer/mixer Jason “Space” Smith (MementoDigital Daggers) with sessions that featured the new line-up at Wishbone StudiosOcean Way, and The Village Recorder. Having already shared the stage with Puddle of MuddTrapt, and Vast, and with plans to release singles throughout the rest of the year, RadioBlack shows no signs of slowing down in the lead up to their 2018 debut.

“Between Courtney’s gruff vocals and Hawkins’ steady drumming, (Run Away) has an emotional intensity akin to the Foo’s own ‘Times Like These.'” – Consequence of Sound

“RadioBlack’s TJ Courtney is living proof that taking risks pays off.” – PureVolume

State of Illusion Releases Official Music Video for “Blind” Off of ‘Aphelion’

South Carolina rock quartet State of Illusion has released the highly anticipated music video for “Blind,” the newly remixed single off of their 2014 released LP, Aphelion. Originally premiered on, “Blind” was directed and edited by Erez Bader of Silent Flight Productions.

“I wrote ‘Blind’ in the middle of the night roughly 10 years ago, but we still feel life and energy from it every time we play it. Those 10 years can definitely be felt on ‘Blind’ because the new mix takes tiny recordings from almost every member we’ve had over the years and subtly inserts them throughout the track. We included it on Aphelion because we knew that it was a song that needed to be heard. Despite originally promoting another song as the single for Aphelion, ‘Blind’ was the song that seemed to connect most with listeners, probably because of the back and forth volley of mellow and hard-hitting elements and personal lyrics written so that they can be applied to the listeners’ unique situations. That’s why we decided to team up with Silent Flight Productions to create a visual to go along with the music. Hopefully, the new version of ‘Blind’, along with the awesome video, will resonate with new listeners on an emotional level and give them a little taste of what State of Illusion is all about.” – Jacob Porter (vocals)

Life is often comprised of our reactions. Often, negatives can be turned into positives through the way we look at situations or how hard we are willing to work for what we love. At least, that’s the philosophy that Greenville, SC-based rock band State of Illusion has adopted.

Though the rock act has had many successes, including memorable performances with artists such as Staind (hand-selected by vocalist Aaron Lewis), ChevelleFlawSmile Empty SoulAustin John Winkler (ex-Hindervocalist), Like a StormFailure Anthem, and Stitched Up Heart, along with functions for DisturbedKillswitch EngageLacuna Coil, etc., State of Illusion has faced more than its fair share of adversity.

After releasing their most recent studio album, Aphelion (self-produced, self-engineered, and self-released), State of Illusion took another dose of their well-documented bad luck (see the documentary One More Song – A Decade of State of Illusion from their brand new DVD, State of Illusion – Live) through the loss of core-members. Though beautifully crafting Aphelion with only two members (Jacob Porter on vocals, guitar, piano, pedal steel, engineering, and editing and Josh Breland on bass, drums, guitar, and piano) and seeing a top 100 worldwide rock chart release, the immediate post-Aphelion lineup was not meant to be.

What began as a rag-tag group of hired-guns pulled from other local acts to fill in on an opening show for an early musical influence in the band Flaw, a mixture of hard work, dedication, positive outlooks, and a love for the music turned bad luck into the strongest line-up State of Illusion has ever had. Former guitarist Cameron Price, drummer Bryce Chism, and Solaristvocalist/guitarist Tom Carden on bass stepped up to help Porter when State of Illusion needed it most.

This line-up continued to assist State of Illusion throughout 2017 as, one by one, these temporary members dedicated themselves as permanent members of the band. While filling in admirably, Carden knew that he needed set his focus back on Solarist and allow room for a permanent bassist to cement themselves into the lineup. His parting gift was former Solarist bassist Brandon Rodgers.

Once the 4 piece was solidified, State of Illusion sought the creative minds of Silent Flight Productions’ director Erez Bader (The ContortionistVeil of MayaThe Dear Hunter) and VFX supervisor and producer Casey Crescenzo(vocalist of The Dear Hunter) to bring a visual representation of their single “Blind” (remixed by Greg Macklin of Ordinance) to life. The moody result is a perfect fresh start for State of Illusion, who plan to use this opportunity to introduce Aphelion to a new set of listeners they couldn’t reach before.

Aphelion stands out amongst its contemporaries. The album is complete, in every sense of the word, with its many textures and range of sonic landscapes. With soaring anthems, such as the radio-ready singles, “Blind” and “Find Yourself,” to heavy-yet-melodic tracks, “Over” and “The Price You Pay,” to quiet moments, highlighted in the reflective “Reach the End,” Aphelion covers a full spectrum of emotion.

State of Illusion, seasoned with experience, a solid and energetic line-up, a reinvigorated approach, and having met success on the road for the past two years, have just released their first DVD, State of Illusion – Live, and are hard at work writing the highly-anticipated follow-up to Aphelion.

Seamlessly blending melody with adrenaline fueled, heavy rock and roll, Blacktop Mojo draws in everyone from old metal heads to people whose radio dials have never left top 40 stations. With soaring, gritty vocals and impeccably blended heavy guitar grooves set around a raucous southern stomp, Blacktop Mojo’s live shows are sure to leave fans’ screaming at the top of their lungs with metal horns in the air.

It was a blast making this video. We got to do it with a bunch of our friends from our home town of Palestine, TX in the bar where we played our first show. It basically turned into a two day party and the fun we had really comes through in the video. – Blacktop Mojo

Formed in the final weeks of 2012, Blacktop Mojo began cutting their teeth in the numerous country venues that Texas has to offer, but the guys never quite felt like they belonged. With each song they wrote, the vocals got less twangy and the sound from the amps became more gravelly and distorted until the guys had found their own unique blend of heavy southern rock. Through touring, the band has played with many national acts such as Bon JoviSammy HagarAaron LewisDaryl “DMC’ McDanielsCandleboxDrowning PoolPuddle Of MuddSmile Empty SoulAudiotopsy, and Whiskey Myers.

After running the highways for two years in support of their debut album, I Am(2014), in July of this year the band loaded their gear in the van and made a trip to Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, as well as FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL to make their sophomore effort entitled, Burn The Ships. In addition to the producer of the band’s first record, Philip Mosley, the band brought in co-producer, Jimmy Johnson of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound studios as well as his long time engineer, Steve Melton (Lynyrd SkynyrdThe Rolling StonesBob Seger) to bring a seasoned sonic quality to their brand of raw, grungy rock. Burn The Ships was released March 10th of 2017 garnering critical acclaim in both US and European press outlets including Team Rock’s Classic Rock Magazine, who is quoted as saying “Blacktop Mojo might just be America’s next big rock band.”
