Hailing from Chicago’s renowned Wax Trax Records stable of recording artists, MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT creators Groovie Mann (Franke Nardiello) and Buzz McCoy (Marston Daley) have been conjuring up sonic tales of sex, blasphemy and kitschy horror since 1987. Though often categorized as a pioneering industrial band along with label mates MINISTRYKMFDM and FRONT 242, their true sound can be described more as a concoction of experimental, disco, rock, electronica and lounge, interlaced with their signature sampling of spoken dialogue largely taken from old B-movies. In fact, the original intent was to write and produce a trashy thriller film in the style of John Waters and Russ Meyers. Yet without much cinema experience and access to video equipment, the project was scrapped, only to be transformed into a musical group of the same name – something both had more expertise in. Nardiello fronted the late 70’s Chicago bands THE DT’S and SPECIAL AFFECT, as well as singing for the post-punk British outfit DROWNING CRAZE. Daley attended Berklee College Of Music, but quickly realized a formal education in jazz was not for him. He left school in 1981 to co-found the art-punk Boston group ZERO ZERO, and later the more goth-electronic oriented GODBOX before relocating to Chicago in 1987.

TKK’s debut album I See Good Spirits And I See Bad Spirits was released in 1989 and the next few years were spent touring extensively with an entourage of dubious musicians, shocking performance artists, and a back-up trio of voluptuous singers/dancers dubbed the BOMB GANG GIRLZ. The shows had a “Cabaret From Hell” vibe, arousing the curiosity of the kids and the media.

The band’s popularity among the underground club scene was fueled by hard-hitting dance tracks with titles like “Kooler Than Jesus”, “Do You Fear For Your Child”, “A Girl Doesn’t Get Killed By A Make-Believe Lover Cuz It’s Hot” (featuring punk poet chanteuse LYDIA LUNCH), and “A Daisy Chain 4 Satan”. The Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) was appalled.

Their third album Sexplosion! (1991) spawned the chart-topping, radio savvy song “Sex On Wheelz” which quickly caught the attention of the major labels, and the band signed to Interscope Records in 1992. Like all of their releases, the album had an overpowering cinematic quality, so it wasn’t surprising when Hollywood also took notice. They found themselves writing for an assortment of soundtracks like Paul Verhoeven’s SHOWGIRLS and animator Ralph Bakshi’s COOL WORLD. The video to their 1993 single “Blue Buddha” was prominently featured in MTV’s classic series BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD. In 1994, they stepped in front of the camera for a cameo in the cult classic THE CROW to perform the song “After The Flesh”. More recently THRILL KILL KULT was written into the story line of the 2013 film SEXY EVIL GENIUSstarring Seth GreenKatee Sackoff and William Baldwin. Their music can be heard frequently in movies, television and cable shows, such as HBO’s long running, REAL SEX series, Showtime’s CALIFORNICATION and most recently in the indie flick CRAZY EYES.

MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT’S sound has always been fearlessly experimental, and has been directly credited for influencing many of today’s artists from MARILYN MANSON to the SCISSOR SISTERS. The group continues to morph and stretch the fabric of music and as we know it, changing styles and exploring new sonic avenues with each new album, yet always remaining true to the KULT and true innovators.

Kai Straw – The Recipe

Toothpick was just the beginning of a new direction for Kai Straw. After the release of his LP, he didn’t waste any time getting started on the next album. The first single off the upcoming project is a Summer ready hit called “The Recipe.”

“The Recipe” sees Kai Straw expanding on his unique, unparalleled indie-pop style. Kai kicks up a raw, but catchy sound that slowly wraps itself around your heart and soul with its intimate mood. Kai’s humility seeps through the memorable lyrics and tasteful production for a timeless love song. All the ingredients come together for something truly extraordinary to set the tone for the rest of GUN.

Stream “The Recipe” on Spotify

Kai Straw is the name of one of San Francisco’s best kept secrets.  The humble creative is known for a dynamic sound that has taken him from hip-hop producer, to emcee, to poet, to singer-songwriter, to one of the most unique R&B / soul vocalists on record.  Kai’s diversity in sound is matched only by his eclectic taste beyond the mic; as the director of his own videos, as a writer, musician and producer – he seems to be a modern renaissance man expressing panoramic talent across the arts in addition to his headlining forte.

Kai Straw is set to release his album, GUN, through his own imprint Tenth Gate Records. Complete with 10 songs, GUN sees Kai Straw levying his singing talent to new heights through a multitude of varied records; each possessing a kaleidoscopic range of influence across a broad spectrum of genres – from indie and soul, to funk and R&B, to EDM and hip-hop. Produced by James The Bear, this LP builds on the sound of Kai’s previous album Toothpick, but is characterized by a tone that is as eclectic as it is sure-footed.  If Toothpick can be considered Kai’s first step into the foray of the pop music landscape, then his newest record, aptly titled GUN, is his sonic boom.

In 2016, Kai Straw released his highly anticipated album Toothpick, whose sounds caught fans by surprise in the best way possible. His most successful album to date, Kai Straw reached fans around the world by locking in support from Spotify through their Best Fresh Finds of 2016, as well as seeing the single “Hurricane” reach #2 on their Global Viral Chart. The album received support from entertainment figures like Demi Lovato and MTV’s Khylin Rhambo, as well as tastemaking music blogs including Indie Shuffle, Music Ninja, Girl Underground Music and more.

Insatia Release Official Music Video for “Memory of a Sapphire”

American/Canadian Symphonic power metal group INSATIA has released the Official Music Video for “Memory of a Sapphire”, featuring former Arch Enemy guitarist Chris Amott, off of their sophomore album, Phoenix Aflame, due out June 23, 2017 via Pitch Black Records. “Memory of a Sapphire” and Phoenix Aflame are available to pre-order HERE now.

“Memory of a Sapphire quickly became a favorite for us in the studio- it’s poppy and melody-oriented, which makes it a lot of fun to play live. Spotlighting Mr. Chris Amott’s guitar artistry on it adds a whole new level of zing, and as it really represents our sound most completely, it all seemed very natural to make it the first music video for the album.” – Zoë Federoff (vocals)

“The song ‘Killing Time’ from our current album Paint the Devil is a homage to Spaghetti Western Films. This is our interpretation of what Pantera would sound like to Clint Eastwood in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. This video was shot on our last tour at a Metal Festival in Germany.” – Niki Skistimas (Vocals)

Empyrean Throne Releases Lyric Video “And None Shall Rise” From Upcoming Debut Album

Los Angeles, CA Symphonic Blackend Metal Artists Empyrean Throne have released the Official Lyric Video for the single “And None Shall Rise” from their upcoming debut album Chaosborne. The lyric video was produced by Scott Rudd (Opeth, Fallujah, Fear Factory).

Chaosborne was produced by Mick Kenney (Anaal Nathrakh), features artwork by Valadislav Kutusov, and will be released August 11th on M-Theory Audio (the new label from Marco Barbieri ex Century Media President, Nuclear Blast).

Pre-Order Chaosborne

“And None Shall Rise is not only the subsequent single from our upcoming debut album ‘Chaosborne’, but the opening salvo in the second act of the record’s story ark. Lovecraft enthusiasts will recognize much of the themes presented within the song, including the barren setting of ice covered dreamworld Polaris. Narratively the somber and treacherous atmosphere of Polaris was a perfect companion for the bombastic arrangement of And None Shall Rise. At this point in the album’s story, our main character, a knights templar named Mathias, is locked in a battle of wills with beings of the Lovecraftian pantheon. His ideals, sacred truths, and feeble view of the world around him has been fragmented, like a broken mirror that further pains his sanity as he tries to rearrange the pieces. However, with this suffering comes illumination and the awakening of a deeper power within. Everyone experiences agony, but it is within these trials that we are able to unlock hidden parts of our being capable of great feats, strength, and resolve. We hope that you enjoy listening to And None Shall Rise. Ever vigilant disciples! “- Andrew Knudsen (Vocals)

Insatia Release Newest Single “We Are The Grey” Off of Upcoming ‘Phoenix Aflame’

American Symphonic power metal group INSATIA has released the second single, “We Are The Grey”, off of their upcoming album, Phoenix Aflame, due out June 23, 2017 via Pitch Black Records.  “We Are The Grey” and Phoenix Aflame are available to pre-order HERE now.

Vocalist Zoë Federoff comments that the new track “was actually the first song we had written for this album – originally I had constructed it to be a ballad, but as we started working on it, it became more straight up power metal. I don’t like discussing my lyrics in too much depth with certain songs, because it’s fun to see people apply their own meanings to them. This is definitely one of those songs.”
