Fire From The Gods Release Official Music Video for “The Voiceless” off of Upcoming ‘Narrative Retold’

Hardcore Metal band Fire From The Gods has released their Ramon Boutviseth directed Official Music Video for “The Voiceless”. Produced by Jonathan Davis (KORN), “The Voiceless” is off of their upcoming full length album, Narrative Retold, due out May 19th via Rise Records.

“The Voiceless is referring to the callousness of society. This generation is exposed to so many shocking and graphic events. No one seems to bat an eye. There is no compassion or care for one’s fellow man. Violence towards each other is a normal occurrence factored into our lives these days. Speaking up about it is nothing new, but it needs to be said. Yes, the world will keep spinning, and life does go on, but we need to slow down and smell the fucking roses once in a while.” – AJ Channer

Heavy music deserves a heavier message.

That’s what Fire From The Gods deliver on their second full-length album and first for Rise Records, Narrative. Speaking from a platform cast in heavy metal power, hip-hop consciousness, and even a little reggae spirit, the Austin, TX quintet—AJ Channer [vocals], Jameson Teat [guitar], Drew Walker [guitar], Bonner Baker [bass], and Richard Wicander [drums]—urge for change through conveying a story that’s both personal and universal.
That story stems directly from AJ’s life. Born in the Bronx to a single mother of Jamaican descent, he spent his childhood moving between London, New York City, Los Angeles, Norfolk, and even Ghana where he attended middle school. Drawing from this diverse experience, he speaks with unmitigated honesty about the state of the world.

“This album is the personal narrative of a minority man living in major cities and being American,” he explains. “There’s a socio-economic theme throughout the whole record that carries from each song to song. It’s all about the underdog. We’ve all had to fight for everything we have in this band. The political climate in our country is quite racially and socially charged. There are a lot of issues and energy people are expressing along with misguided hate and anger. I want to channel this in music that can resonate. This is where we come from and who we are as a band.”

In order to properly capture this vision, the boys retreated to House of Loud Studios in New Jersey to record with David Bendeth (ParamoreOf Mice & MenBreaking Benjamin). They spent a month in the winter of 2016 tracking what would become Narrative.

“There’s no crying in Bendeth’s dojo,” laughs AJ. “He really pushed us, and we grew in a short period of time. The band takes on a life of its own with this record.”

That growth stands pervasive in songs like “Excuse Me.” The vocalist spits a frenetic and frantic verse over a buzzsaw guitar and seesawing groove before eventually breaking into an airy dancehall break complete with a reggae-style plea, “Excuse me, Mr. Officer…”

“The essence of ‘Redemption Song’ influenced the hook,” he goes on. “I’m speaking my mind about the fact that people judge you based on looks. Police will violate constitutional rights because of it, and the law of the land makes individuals submit.”

Meanwhile, “Public Enemy” lands a one-two punch of aggressive screaming and a soaring unshakable refrain. “It’s a call-to-arms to be heard,” sighs AJ. “I’m targeting the epitome of tyranny on the lyrics.”

On the other end of the spectrum, “End Transmission” sputters out into a celestial hum, balancing an airy hum with pummeling crash. “You cut off the tether to reality and imagine yourself flying amongst the satellites and stars,” he reveals. “We equate the heavens with tranquility and peacefulness although space is very stark and it’s cold. It’s not being a hero to save the world, but finding that hero within yourself.”

Fire From The Gods have quietly built a rabid fan base through tireless touring across the United States. They’ve shared national bills with the likes of August Burns Red and festival stages alongside Slipknot, Bring Me The Horizon, Judas Priest, Killswitch Engage, and more at KNOTFEST two years in a row and with Motionless In White and Underoath at South By So What. Now, their Narrative is on display in 2016.

“I want people to feel empowered when they listen to this record,” AJ leaves off. “Come out of the experience knowing somebody thinks like you. You’re not alone.”

BLACKTOP MOJO RELEASES OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “WHERE THE WIND BLOWS” OFF OF NEW LP ‘BURN THE SHIPS’

Seamlessly blending melody with adrenaline fueled, heavy rock and roll, Blacktop Mojo draws in everyone from old metal heads to people whose radio dials have never left top 40 stations. With soaring, gritty vocals and impeccably blended heavy guitar grooves set around a raucous southern stomp, Blacktop Mojo’s live shows are sure to leave fans’ screaming at the top of their lungs with metal horns in the air.

It was a blast making this video. We got to do it with a bunch of our friends from our home town of Palestine, TX in the bar where we played our first show. It basically turned into a two day party and the fun we had really comes through in the video. – Blacktop Mojo

Formed in the final weeks of 2012, Blacktop Mojo began cutting their teeth in the numerous country venues that Texas has to offer, but the guys never quite felt like they belonged. With each song they wrote, the vocals got less twangy and the sound from the amps became more gravelly and distorted until the guys had found their own unique blend of heavy southern rock. Through touring, the band has played with many national acts such as Bon JoviSammy HagarAaron LewisDaryl “DMC’ McDanielsCandleboxDrowning PoolPuddle Of MuddSmile Empty SoulAudiotopsy, and Whiskey Myers.

After running the highways for two years in support of their debut album, I Am(2014), in July of this year the band loaded their gear in the van and made a trip to Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, as well as FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL to make their sophomore effort entitled, Burn The Ships. In addition to the producer of the band’s first record, Philip Mosley, the band brought in co-producer, Jimmy Johnson of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound studios as well as his long time engineer, Steve Melton (Lynyrd SkynyrdThe Rolling StonesBob Seger) to bring a seasoned sonic quality to their brand of raw, grungy rock. Burn The Ships was released March 10th of 2017 garnering critical acclaim in both US and European press outlets including Team Rock’s Classic Rock Magazine, who is quoted as saying “Blacktop Mojo might just be America’s next big rock band.”

“Twinkle Twinkle Little Scars” is about broken innocence. – Raven

raven black – a visciously sweet metal medley of feminine and masculine power harnessed through a tiny half human | half doll surrounded by her misfits, tossed into a theatrical debauchery of creepy fun and that’s just the beginning.” There is a story here, but you have to take the journey to the 13th hour where these 4 live.

a cunning hybrid femme fatale with playful mischievy, backed up by her twisted gentlemen. Raven black cranks out innocent melody that quickly evolves into wicked cursed screams. You know, blistering and burning your skin with chills and dropping jaws at the powerful vocals coming out of such a tiny stature. Evoked by the ripping guitars and ambient tones of the doctor, low end bass of stiches and thumping double kicks from the demon, muppet, this unique dark carnival of metal taunts your hunger for a new sound.

Their debut EP Seven Sins was recorded in the Wilderness, with Grammy Nominated Producer Ulrich Wild of WurmGroup. The seven song release has garnered loads of buzz and fans demanding more. Taken to the road again after a debut tour with Mushroomhead in October 2016, they will be playing Rock Fest 2017 in Austin, TX March 15-18th and then landing internationally to their adoring fans at the Foco Festival in Mexico with CrazyTown April 2017. Molehill Release Official Music Video for “Hearts on Fire”

Currently gigging around Austin, TX for SXSW, the progressive indie rock band Molehill has released the official music video for their single “Hearts on Fire”. The song is the title track from their new EP (releasing on May 12th) and was inspired by the “Euromaidan” protests in the Ukraine, the birthplace of vocalist Peter Manhart’s mother.

We wanted a video that would reinforce the lyrics and message of the song while also adding additional layers through the visual format,” says Manhart. “Over a couple phone calls with director Matt DiMare, we were all on board with using footage of protests and revolutions. We also tossed around the idea of people being forced to watch this footage in almost a Clockwork Orange – type scenario. Matt came up with a storyline for the video which we all loved – the ‘angel’ character, played by Kit Hamlen, finds Peter walking through downtown Chicago like a zombie, unaware of his surroundings (not an unusual sight in any city these days), takes him to this strange building and forces him to watch protest footage and ‘pay attention.’ He sort of ‘wakes up’ out of his previous state and takes to the street himself to carry on her work.

“Hearts on Fire” was produced and engineered by J. Hall and Molehill, and is available on Spotify and iTunes. Pre-order the EP here.

About Molehill:
Molehill had humble beginnings in small local venues in Champaign, IL, and has since grown into an established presence in the Chicago music scene. They have played over 300 shows between the Midwest and Eastern United States, including some of the more prestigious venues in Chicago, as well as national (and international) festivals like Summerfest, Musikfest, SXSW, and Canadian Music Week in Toronto. Molehill has built a reputation for explosive live shows and a tireless work ethic, as well as the work they’ve done towards fostering a more friendly and cooperative music community in the city of Chicago. They were one of the founding members of the Chicago Roots Collective, which was a 10-band collective working together to promote the Chicago music scene and their music, and for the last 2 years Molehill has curated a monthly email list to dozens of local bands to try to promote live music in Chicago and encourage local bands to attend shows, discover new bands, and support each other even more.

Peter Manhart, lead singer, lyricist, and guitar player, started playing piano at the age of 3. At the University of Illinois, he pursued a double major in engineering physics and piano pedagogy, but dropped the piano major after 2 years so that he could focus his practice time on the guitar. He went on to get his physics degree, but also took numerous creative writing and poetry classes to develop his lyric writing ability. After moving from Champaign to Chicago, Peter met bassist Trevor Jones, who was studying double bass at DePaul University. Trevor had spent a large portion of his life in various orchestras and has always had a penchant for well organized noise, whatever the genre. He also grew up watching his father, a music professor, manage and play in a 16-piece jazz big band. This instilled in Trevor a strong business and management sense, and helped him complement Peter not only musically but with the business aspect of the band as well. After Peter and Trevor started working together, drummer Devin Staples joined the group. Devin has been a fixture in the Chicago gospel scene for years, and had also been a member of two highly-respected Chicago bands, NYCO and Cassius Clay. The 4th and final piece of the puzzle, keyboard/synth player Greg Van Zuiden, joined soon after. Greg had recently graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a music degree, moved to Chicago, and was looking for a band to join. As the youngest member of Molehill, he was the light-hearted “glue” that helped the band stay strong.

The Hearts on Fire EP continues the group’s tradition of storytelling in music. The dark, brooding “Old Soldier” tells the story of a proud, religious, soldier, living out his last days in a nursing home – “And he sits in a dead room, sterilizer and perfume, and the lights are slowly growing dim.” “Reverie” has the narrator lamenting the loss of a parent long ago, while also thanking that parent, for “you made me the person I am.” Last but not least, the title track was inspired by the “Euromaidan” protests in Ukraine – the birthplace of Peter Manhart’s mother. The song is about the common people rising up to fight an oppressive regime. Though the people in this protest were unarmed, the government sent riot police and snipers to kill them, and yet the people’s numbers kept growing until they were finally heard. This song is about the strength of community, sheer willpower, and the resonance of a good and virtuous idea. Though the few in control may try to keep the will of the people down, the masses can change the world if they fight together. With the recent wave of public dissent and protests happening around the world, this seems like the appropriate time to share this song.
