PRIMITIVE RACE Release Lyric Video for “Bed Six” Off of ‘Soul Pretender’

Primitive Race Cartoon

PRIMITIVE RACE, featuring the late, legendary former FAITH NO MORE and BAD BRAINS front-man Chuck Mosley, has released a lyric video for the single “Bed Six,” off of their 2017 released Soul Pretender LP.

“The funny thing about Bed Six is all of our songs on Soul Pretender had working titles of Bed and just a number. For whatever reason Chuck decided he was just going to call this song Bed Six and work the title into the song. I gave him so much hell about that and he refused to change it. So we ended up just going with it. It was just an inside joke.” – Chris Kniker

“When I listened to the music, ideas just came pouring out,” Mosley had previously stated. “I couldn’t say no to doing the record. When we completed the first few tracks, I found myself wishing I had written them. Not just the lyrics…just good heavy riffs and grooves really sucked me in. The melodies and words came super easy with this music. Even though it’s a whole different vibe it brought out a side of me I haven’t experienced since writing with Faith No More.”

Early Praise for Soul Pretender:
It’s hard not to view Primitive Race’s sophomore outing, Soul Pretender, as the next chapter in Chuck Mosley’s epic comeback story. On the record, out Friday on Metropolis, Mosley is positively radiant, sounding better, sharper and more engaged than he has since the heyday of Faith No More’s Introduce Yourself. After years of being relegated to the struggles of “solo” outings and hard-to-find Cement discs, Mosley here is raspy – he wears his age incredibly well – and utterly menacing as he lurks behind lurching guitars and the occasional twinkle of a keyboard, the landscape darker than his previous work. And, damn, does it work! – Pop Dose

If Primitive Race’s stylistic trajectory is to be considered, as exhibited in the group’s two albums; add to that, the invigorating (but at the same time, inadvertent) inclusion of Mosley’s memories into this latest offering – then there should be something more that can be expected from the collective’s future projects. For the meantime, let your senses get drowned in pleasant torture in the sonic machinery of this scorching undertaking. – CrypticRock

Time will tell what the next incarnation of Primitive Race will hold, but if the first two albums are any indication, then it should be just as great while continuing to establish the supergroup’s place in the world of punk and industrial rock. – mxdwn

“Mosley discussed Soul Pretender with me during our interview about two months ago, praising it as unlike anything he had ever heard and claiming that it spoke to him in a way that he felt beyond compelled to work on this project. After listening to the album, I can understand why Mosley was drawn to the project as Soul Pretender is a unique and seamless collision of alternative, industrial, and punk rock. Just as Mosley said, it really is unlike anything else. His pride for the album as a whole was not only completely justified, but his own performance stands out as one of the best among his diverse career. While it is a common cliché to claim someone went out with a bang at the top of their game, it’s clear that Mosley truly did. As a whole, Soul Pretender, is an excellent record and a must hear for fans of 90’s alternative and hard rock as well as those who prefer modern rock from the last decade. After listening to Soul Pretender a number of times, it is clear that Primitive Race is truly a band to watch out for.” Spill Magazine

Christopher Dean Releases “Everything Fades” Lyric Video Off of Debut LP, ‘Life Lessons’

New Jersey based rock / metal multi-instrumentalist Christopher Dean (Michale GravesDarkness DescendsAlyxx) has released his official lyric video for the single “Everything Fades,” off of his debut album, Life Lessons.

“’Everything Fades’ is a song about Love and Loss and yet the World still turns.”” Christopher Dean

“This album is so near and dear to my heart. Each track is a different journey down the rabbit hole of another Life Lesson I was lucky enough to learn the hard way because I myself prefer the road less traveled, for it is only on those paths that we are lucky enough to experience Emotion colliding with Inspiration while tumbling in the Imagination of our minds. As musicians, it is our duty to bring those experiences to life through our art. “Life Lessons” is like a psychological fall and rise again emotional journey mixed with punk rock, blastbeats and a 7 string.”

Track List:
1) Punknight’s Finale
2) Everything Fades
3) Dust To Dust
4) Enjoy The Ride
5) Blast From the Past
6) Gone With The Wind
7) Lean In Lean Toward Lean With
8) Lover (Ten Years Ago)
9) My Everything (Why I Try)
10) Nanu Nanu (We Miss You)
11) Bleeding Her for More

Dean is a self-taught guitar-smith with pounds of passion combined with years of determination and an over achieving brain that yearns for endless knowledge. On the eve of his 13th birthday, the embers of a burning desire began an everlasting journey toward a blissful state as long as harmony and melody were at the helm. Growing up in a small town in New Jersey, Dean came from a working family, so when it came time to learn the techniques of the craft, it was up to making friends at a local music shop who would discuss the wonderful world of guitar and the endless possibilities. Through the years it became more of the bottomless enigma that he had to crack, so at every single VFW hall or firehouse punk show, Dean would study the hands of the talent on stage and their every move. Soon Dean was playing all of the live albums of any band he could find, down to the guitar spins and all. Hard work and dedication persevered because, before he knew it, he wasn’t just playing the midnight blue Ibanez with a blood soaked pic guard and a Felix the cat sticker, he now had a (1 of 6) Marilyn Manson custom guitar that he worked for 3 solid months of the summer his Sophomore year in HS just to afford….Then it all changed…. From there the quest to understand this intrinsic world became even greater…. Even more addicting. The itch to plug in his axe somewhere and KRANK it to 11 was even stronger with this young, notorious adolescent.

Naturally, as time went on, this grew as a way for this completely misunderstood teen to use this gift that he had so magnanimously received, to become a form of creative therapy. “JUST AN AXE ON MY BACK,” that wasn’t his motto per se but definitely the lifestyle that was led. By Senior year he had been voted most musical of his graduating class, not because anyone ever listened to him play, other than when his band DEATHSICK blew the death metal doors off the performing theatre during the talent show, but more because he had a guitar in a hard case with him EVERY DAY IN EVERY CLASS. The Manson guitar had its own table in his JR year Anatomy and Physiology class….Right by the bucket of cow eyes and baby frogs.

After finishing high school and then college, he joined several bands out of the back page ads of local music billboards and magazines, many everlasting life lessons were learned. His first REAL jump to “success” was in 2011 when he joined up with his best friend Angry Jay along brothers at arms, Chuck Gowan and Zaki Ali, to form the super slow motion breakdown masters Darkness Descends, which lead to SIRIUS XM radio play and air time interviews, alongside two album releases and co-headlining stage spots on the both the Bamboozle and GOTJ festivals. These accomplishments only fed the monster.

In 2013, all of those countless hours disassembling, painting and Frankenstein-ing of his arsenal of Amps and Axes, Dean landed his first 6 week full us tour as the guitar tech for Darrow Chemical Company. Before the completion of the tour, the lead guitarist Loki had to leave early due to a severe family emergency, so the band asked Dean to fill in on Lead Guitar, and it was one of the best moments of his life, it’s every musician’s dream. This was the moment he had been waiting for. Sure he was playing tons of shows for years, but there is something different about cruising Tarvan around the country basically living on $7/day for over a month, all in the name of PUNK ROCK. This opportunity lead to further touring and Tech gigs for bands such as Gotham Rd (tech 2014), Michale Graves (tech 2015/bass 2017 to current), The Independents(bass us tour 2015), Black Cat Attack (Lead Guitar various shows US and Canada 2015), GOTH from Portugal (2016 Lead Guitar various shows 2016) The Draf Ft. Retro Glam (Special Guest solo on single release collaboration), Children of October (Bass and back up Vox 2016), Alyxx (Bass 2017-current).

That being said, it may seem like a lot on the plate of destiny, But Wait There’s More. Starting September 2016 Dean began studio time composing his debut solo album, justly deemed Life Lessons, officially released on Friday the 13th of October 2017 everywhere. This album consists of 13 tracks of true emotion and the precarious journey of dealing with the real things that happen in life from death and divorce, love and loss, and everything we deal with day to day that tries to break us down. This album stands as a testament to Deans constant strive to never just give up. This album is about having the strength to make art out of life’s lemons. Our relationships with our fellow man are constantly how one is defined, this is only the beginning.

Dean is now a brand including (but not limited to) Music, Skateboards, Tattoos, Beard Oil, T-shirts, Characters, Guitar Pickups and more. Those who choose to do what they live-in turn love what they do.

Welcome to Jonestown Release Lyric Video for “Lazy”

Chicago pop-punk band Welcome to Jonestown has released the official lyric video for their single, “Lazy” off of their upcoming EP. Releasing digitally March 1st, Go Punk Yourself! is the second EP from the Windy City trio.

“We are extremely exicted to bring you our second EP Go Punk Yourself!, available for digital download March 1st! This time we recorded with our buddy Nick at Nook Studios in New Lenox, IL and we seriously could not be possibly more excited with the way these songs turned out. Everyone worked really hard on this and has a lot to be proud of! Please enjoy Go Punk Yourself!” – Welcome To Jonestown

Jeremy Handel: Lead Vocals, Guitar

Born in the mid 80’s in the pastures on the rural northside of Chicago, IL, Jeremy Handel has been obsessed with the pop-punk scene since the ripe old age of 14 and when he finally decided to get up off his lazy ass and learn to play the guitar for real, he remembered how much he always wanted to be in a band. Luckily for Jeremy, he recognizes all Alkaline Trio songs immediately, and when Burnard Wedderburn came over and started strumming one out, that was it and the jam was on!

Burnard Wedderburn: Drums

The “Travis Barker” to their otherwise incredibly-amazing-but-not-the-MOST-talented-band-in-the-world Blink 182, Burnard Wedderburn’s technical and unique yet familiar style of drumming leaves no musical stone unturned. Also born and raised on Chicago’s very rural northside, Burt has a ferocity on the drums which rival that of a leopard, or lion…or some such creature that tears it up when the situation calls for awesomeness.

Matt Handel: Backup Vocals, Bass

Jeremy’s brother in arms, and also in parent, Matt is the final piece of the puzzle that is Welcome to Jonestown. Matt’s clever, purposeful bass notes and natural harmonies are the glue that keep WTJ’s songs from falling apart at the seams, and without them, there’s a distinction that doesn’t go unnoticed. Fortunately for the band and their fans, they will never have to worry about what that might sound like.

10 Questions with The Dead Betas

Who is answering the questions?
Tobias Monsters and Aidan Sugaboi
Can you tell us a little bit about the formation of The Dead Betas?
The Dead Betas formed when Aidan was due to record my failed acoustic band, i forgot to tell him not to come over and  turned up to my house, i told him it was all over and he asked me to appear on his electronic solo project, and for the next 3 weeks, we drank rum, wrote music and recorded to electronic backing tracks! About 3 months later we pulled in a band for our live sound.

As a musician, when was it that you decided that this is what you wanted to do with your life?

Tobias: I had just split from a long term realtionship, i had screwed up college and was stuck living life as a builder… so it was all i had to live life to it’s full, and i went nuts making it happen. Trust me, when you have nothing else going for you, music becomes your life!So how did you guys get to the band title The Dead Betas?
Basically, old punks were known as Dead Beatsm and when you are diabetic (which aidan is) your Beta cells in your pancrias die… and so, The Dead Betas.

For unfamiliar readers, can you tell them what you sound like?

Well, we’ve been described as “Ritalin-dodging, adrenaline-fuelled, synth-smashing, electronic-smattered punks” but we call it synth-punk, like UK Subs and Black Flag meets Mindless Self Indulgence and Duran Duran.
What band have you enjoyed touring the most with since your formation and why?

Call The Doctor, they are like female fronted jerky girl punk band, and they are just the nicest people we’ve ever had the pleasure of being involved with, i think there is a band romance for life, we hope to record in the spring and one of our songs need a female vocal, Patti (Call The Doctor front woman) is a prime candidate for the part! Best band in Bristol!

As an upcoming band, what makes you stand out above the rest?
We work like no-one else we know, we have a bit of a monopoly on the NorthDevon music scene with our promotions company Black Hole which has given us contacts UK wide. We’ve always been as DIY as possible with our recordings and gigs and still manage to get some great slots. Our mix of old school punk and modern synth is exciting and we give it the shit on stage, we’ve left many an audience terrified but wanting more! Our ability to put together a 21 day UK tour and pull it off with no help showed the haters that when you want it like we do, you can do it!
In a kind of reference to the last question, what would you say is the hardest factor about being in an upcoming band?
Touring is hard, it’s almost impossible to bleed money out of promoters for a gig in a Betas virgin town. And we really are skint! Most of all, its getting people to care about what we do. The competition is vast, so whether its talent, stage presence or promotional tallent you really need something to stand out!
Aidan: I have never met anyone that can twist the truth blag like Tobias, if that boy needs something done for us, he’ll find a way to do it
What track of yours currently means the most to you and why?
Bideford College is one of our well known songs locally, having been banned from bandcamp it’s a controvertial one. Basically, we were in full support of an anti bullying campaign that had arrisen in the school we both attended and we wrote an all out offensive and confrontational song to make a point. We come from a rough little town overun with kids beating up “emo’s” for a laugh and it was time for a change! And the fact it was aimed the song  at the local schools inability to help the cause actually pulled together all the kids into something they could all laugh at. So whether you were a chav or an emo, you could laugh at the song, creating a common ground for everyone… which also royally annoyed the school, and strangely enough made them up the anti bullying game!
As 2011 has just ended, looking back now, can you give us one or two of your proudest achievements from that year?

One of our proudest moments of 2011 was getting back off a 21 day UK tour to tell people it was a success. We were told time and time again it would be rubbish and we would never pull it off without proper management and a PR company and we managed to pull it off. Just before we went on tour we walked round all of our local towns with a money box asking for donations to help us pay for petrol and stuff, we made enough money to pay for half our fuel because so many local businesses and people knew us from running Black Hole and giving their son’s, daughters and other relatives gig slots. So when we came home after a successfull tour and hundreds of new fans, having nearly sold out of 7″ vinyl ep’s and t-shirts, we were able to say this band from the middle of knowwhere did something!
What do you want 2012 to do for the status of The Dead Betas?
We would love to get playing a few festivals, tour a couple more times and play to new people! We just want you to listen to what we have to offer! If by the end of 2012 we can say, we played a couple festivals, did our 2nd UK tour and have a few new fans, we’ll be happy! If we can be millionaires with an album in every CD player in the country we’ll be happier!
